Licht is wasting no time gutting primetime. I guess Don Lemon was a little too left leaning for his new best friends in the GOP.

(11,261 posts)Try this Licht, less commercials. You blend them in together so nicely it is almost like a long commercial song. A way too long song way too often. Maybe cut back to 12 hours or one true news hour at least with few ads. No?
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)Licht, like many TV executives, believes that a strong morning show is the key to a network's success and he's specialized in developing morning shows at CBS and MSNBC.
For similar reasons, ABC put their arguably strongest anchor, George Stephanopoulos, on the morning show (no matter how odd that is).
Chris Licht is banking his success on Don Lemon. The furthest thing from a "purge" imaginable.

(5,067 posts)He now is a co-host. This is a step down for him. The real tell will be who replaces him
in prime time. I going to guess that this person will be to the right of Lemon.
Not good for Lemon and not good for the country.
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)Lemon is the star of this line up. Hardly a step down.
I'm not a fan of morning shows personally, and liked seeing Lemon in the evenings (when I watch CNN, which isn't that frequently), but this move is not bad for either Lemon or the republic.
As I said, Licht puts a premium on morning shows as the cornerstones of networks.
This move shows his faith in Don Lemon.

(5,104 posts)and--as mentioned--Chris Licht is all about the success of his morning shows.
Incoming television network heads ALWAYS make changes. They must do this to put their own brand on the programming. I worked for my entire career in television here in Los Angeles and having reshuffles is absolutely normal.

(5,104 posts)He was Stephen Colbert's producer--and at the send off Colbert joked that since he's "trained" Chris Light that CNN should now stand for the Cobbert News Network.
Not sure where in the world you got the idea that Chris Licht is MAGA?

I see posts here every day here from DUers saying they watched something on Fox or on Newsmax. Why they want to watch that crap and think CNN is just trash is very confusing.
Sympthsical
(9,073 posts)More Democrats hate watch Fox than CNN or MSNBC.
If people spend a ton of their time hate-watching the other place, why are they surprised that liberal hosts are moved around, replaced, or fired when their ratings aren't great?
Look at this mess:
https://www.thewrap.com/tucker-carlson-liberal-viewership-fox-news/
Of those demo-aged viewers surveyed who identified as Democrats, 39% chose Fox News, 31% chose MSNBC and 30% chose CNN for programming from 8 p.m. ET to 11 p.m. ET.
Moreover, in viewership throughout the day, 42% of Democrats ages 25-54 watched Fox, while 33% watched CNN and 25% watched MSNBC.
I get told about what Tucker Carlson said almost on the daily. By other Democrats. I can't think of the last time a Don Lemon commentary went viral.
So, if we're being truly honest, if news executives don't think liberal hosts will draw ratings or buzz, whose to blame for that? Whose failing these shows and hosts? Is it the executives, or is it the viewers who claim they want this programming and then proceed to not watch it?

Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)but morning shows are huge.
Television executives hope to grab an audience in the morning and never let go (to the extent possible).
In many ways it is the morning shows that--if successful--are the signature shows for a network.
Licht has placed a huge bet on Don Lemon.
