The cruelty is the point. It's always been the point.

Imagine making a huge show of protecting kids from drag brunches and Harriet Tubman posters in classrooms, and then bragging/laughing about trafficking actual children to a random state with no plan as to how to feed or house them or give them medical care

I like the earlier version of the golden rule from the Pharisees: “Do not do to others that which is hateful to yourself.” Seems like that’s even easier to follow

Faiths, philosophies and folk with just plain feelings and good ideas around the planet hold the message to be central to spiritual development. While the exact wording is as varied as all the philosophies ever considered and languages spoken, the concept that the Other being Oneself in a different guise remains central.

And yet, so bloody many are OK with harming others as long as they make a buck, accumulate power, and don’t get their own hands dirty. “Money trumps peace,” is how George W Bush put it at a WH press conference. Not one reporter in the cowed press asked him WTF?, let alone a follow-up question.

Love, not hate. Love creates. Hate destroys.

The point is not to be mean; the point is satisfying their own orgasmic pleasure through meanness.
It is the self-satisfied tingle of experiencing the 'overlordship' of power, that motivates some toward the demonic.
The ability to destroy others in the selfish attempt to fill the hole in one's own soul is however useless, thus generating never-ending nastiness.
