Is it just me, or does anybody else notice that these so called dangerous people crossing the border

Seem to be mostly families and children that are looking for a better life.

Why are republicans, the most scariest things on the planet, ALWAYS afraid of every least little thing?
Republicans don't need to be in charge, they need deep intensive therapy to deal with their extreme fears that they live with every day. It's not normal to be afraid of everything.

This is not immigration as we've seen in the recent past, this is Diaspora, caused by global warming and it is happening all over the planet.

Not unlike the Irish potato famine, the extreme weather conditions and drought in central and South America are fueling the rise in immigrants at our borders.

The Republicans had better look at their own family tree.If you are not an indigenous American you are the descendant of an immigrant.

Open your hearts America, we need to live and work together.

Are dying, unless by some miracle the drought ends because all the States siphoning water off of lake Mead as if it's an endless pit

Without bothering to do any type of conservation Are also destroying Mexico as well

We have a responsibility to take care of them considering where the ones destroying their country Because several of the States refuse to do any water Conserving whatsoever

Las Vegas is the exception as far as I know

resources and wealth (particularly as viewed from the actual 'poor')
And - maybe, even if you have a few shekels, you just want your kids to be able to go to school - without being victimized or preyed upon by thugs.

But that veers from the original point (and a correct one) - in that global warming is (and will continue) to make certain places near impossible for agriculture, and by consequence, to make a living

Gets their water from lake Mead, lake Mead is currently at 1042', when it drops below 845' huge parts of the Southwestern side of our planet it will lose water supply

And I imagine Mexico is already feeling that because they're furthest from the water supply

Our resources may be limited however the Eastern half of our country is still plentiful
Soon texans will be running to the East Coast for water

Perhaps we should consider building a wall along the Mississippi river lol
I kid but I'm serious It's just the beginning of the mass migration that's going to happen over the next few decades. We have run out of time

What exactly does "completely" integrate mean? All over the country there are Irish celebrations, Italian celebrations etc. Yet I never see republicans losing their shit over that. I'm 5th generation American born Scott/Irish. I have a Scottish family crest hanging on my wall, I wear one around my neck and I have the Scottish flag as well. And on some occasions, I wear full Scottish dress in my families tartan colors. It's who I am and where my ancestors came from. Have I completely integrated? Funny, NO ONE has ever said a peep about my need to "completely integrate."

"integrate" - meaning be more white. We haven't had major issues about the Amish (or Mennonites) having long standing 'communities' have we? Come to think of it - well established Hasidic communities are thriving in certain areas .... But, for some reason, if your Asian, or middle-eastern, or south American ... It's all, "speak the language!!" (which, incidentally the vast majority do)

harvests all the crops they grow in Florida? It isn't "hard working Americans", I'll tell you that! Americans don't want those jobs. It's back-breaking work for little pay (if the republican corporate farm conglomerates pay them at all) and they treat their people like farm animals, right down to their living conditions.

DeSantis better check with his corporate farm donors before sending these people away.

They see the families and kids that we see. They just paint Snidely Whiplash mustaches on them and then tell their moron and racist minions to be terrified of them, which they happily do. Then the GOP swoops in to defend "America" from these boogeymen that are coming for the children in the night because of Democrat's "open borders".

It's a complete sham like everything else that comes out of the GOP.

is their son or daughter presenting them with a mixed-race grandchild. If you visit a public school in an American city that has a rich heritage of many cultures, the kids have all kinds of friends from different races and cultures. And once these kids get in their 20s, they may very well fall in love with someone, whose skin tone is different. Want to get married, raise a family.

But oh my, what ever will the parents' friends say about mixed-race grandchildren? So best not to let those "others" at the border enter into American society. Send them away. Send them back. Out of sight, out of mind.

37. Personally not a fan of opening our borders to just any immigrants from 2nd/3rd world countries
Fri Sep 16, 2022, 02:33 PM
Sep 2022

Trust me it has nothing to do w/brown skin, and everything to do with caring about the environment/climate change.

People living in 2nd/3rd world countries simply have a much smaller carbon footprint, on average.

If they move to the 1st world, that footprint inevitably jumps larger.

A 'better life' in the vast majority of cases ... means burning more carbon, whether you want to admit it or not, it's statistically true, and that's unlikely to change IMHO.

Further, I actually have no issue with the USA adopting a merit-based immigration policy, like MOST of the rest of the developed world has. Really don't see the problem. Why would the USA suck if we did that, but Aussies, Kiwi's and Canadians are judged acceptable by most here for these exclusive policies?

That said, I can see why this position sounds kinda dickish.

But I came to it after many, many years of contemplation, and it's nothing to do with anything like racism so don't even ...

Wherever it happens (not just the USA), letting a shitload of people move to the 1st world from the 2nd/3rd world because climate change is wrecking their country?

It's the nice thing to do, sure, but scientifically-speaking? It's a bad idea.

Fri Sep 16, 2022, 04:47 PM

I said I'm not, as part of a larger philosophical point, that being that I am pro-being-very-selective, i.e. Merit-Based. Not 'well, it's awful in my home country for XYZ reason so here I am please take me in'.

And I think consideration should be given to the carbon impact of people moving from 2nd/3rd world to places like the USA.

And please don't accuse me of posting right-wing talking points.

My opinions are my own. Sometimes they don't match up perfectly with de riguer liberal thinking. USUALLY they do, but not always. But my opinion is never based on 'this is right-winger's thinking so I'll parrot it'. That ain't me, man/madam. They don't even believe in climate change FFS.

I WANT for us to be super-nice as a country, but the First World collectively, is likely to have 10's, if not 100's of millions ... of climate refugees at their door, in a constantly escalating situation over the next few decades.

At SOME point damn near everyone in this country will be like 'okay, that's enough'.

I'm just saying that a little earlier than most people here on DU
