General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe are seeing the culmination of what happens when no one ever pays for political crimes
Nixon got pardoned
Dubya was responsible for countless deaths starting a needless war
Plame got outed - there was no Fitzmas present
Gore got screwed
Hillary got screwed
and on and on - each time the crime more visible.
Republicans are emboldened, doing the equivalent of "I can shoot someone on 5th avenue and get away with it" non stop, flagrantly lying
In their minds, any election they lose is stolen - and even if they don't believe it, they say it - and build the cult.
now they are just kidnapping disenfranchised people and flying them around to "own the libs"
Because they have most of the media - and the rest plays "both sides do it"
And they get away with it - so they become bolder, the crimes become bigger, their disregard grows.
As they said in the Truman movie - "how will it end"?

(14,951 posts)Reagan back-channeled with Iran about the hostages while running against Carter, much like Nixon did with the North Vietnamese -- which LBJ found out about and exclaimed "this is treason!" but then did nothing about.

(1,783 posts)...about it called Spider's Web that can probably be found in any decent library. I'm sure it is out of print, since I think it dates to around 1988-89. IraqGate was a scandal somewhat related to but distinct from Iran-Contra that involved a lot of the same players. And of course it happened at about the same time. I think it was discovered partly because Senator Kerry's investigation of Iran-Contra was so thorough, but I really need to re-read a lot of that history again. It's amazing how little changes in politics even as so much changes in the world.

(11,844 posts)Who will stop them?
That is what drives me crazy.
Day in and day out we discuss their criming. Their sneering criminal arrogance.
Who will stop them?
They hold the highest offices in the land. They are on the ballot.
Who will stop them?

(15,220 posts)We discuss Trump and all of the various investigations. We discuss Abbott and DeSantis and their treatment of the migrants.
But what is actually being done to stop their activities? Essentially, nothing. All talk and no action.
Time for Dems to act and get results.

(19,967 posts)who has gotten away with more crimes, lies, and wrongdoing in their lifetime than TFG.
Boris Johnson told what...5-10 lies and his party booted him. 10 is smaller than 30,000, right?
I've wondered how many (corrupt) MAGAts have supported TFG all along hoping that by using him to promote and normalize lying and corruption they'll be able to get away with more themselves.

(42,770 posts)at toeing the line? Knowing how far to go? For me, we seem too reticent. Always afraid to just come right out and say something, do something. And not talking about breaking law or going against principles. Just afraid to make any kind of straightforward comments at all!

(28,075 posts)Nixon, Reagan, Bush I, Bush II all got away with their crimes and each one pushed the line further until it led to Trump.

There simply will not be enough manpower at DOJ and the courts to try even a tiny percentage of them.
Theyll win by simply creating a tsunami of skullduggery.
