If De Santis and Abbot continues to escalate, something is going to happen. Hence, the other shoe will drop.

I just think they, like many others, are above the law, and Will more likely be rewarded with re-election, rather than punished for essentially trafficking humans.

The back channels in Florida have been breaking down Federal and State laws since the eighties. Mostly with Growth Management. And they succeeded with getting away with it. The Feds could have stepped in to hold people accountable. But they didn't.

Now Florida's back channels are using the same strategy, but on a National level. De Santis is the bull who will storm the china shop, and they will love him for it.

This will be a war of wills.

Too many people here are saying that the stunts are going to make voters feel animosity towards Abbott and DeSantis, and that will ultimately make them stop.

Their voters will be very proud of what they are doing and that is exactly why the governors are doing it. They aren’t going to stop unless a bigger asshole makes them stop.

It's maddening and pathetic. Our prosecutorial capabilities clearly suck if it really, really takes so long to gather evidence and plan legal strategies.

Some of the right wingers want to eliminate birthright citizenship.

Now that was originalism/originalist in the Constitution.

They should have an internal debate.

meaningless and they know it, that is how laws start loosing strength, that is how subpoenas lost their real value...remember Karl Rove? He was subpoenaed, he ignored it, no one did anything about it to force him to answer to the subpoena and that is how it all started, now subpoenas are irrelevant. Well, the same thing is going to happen if the law does not make these two criminal accountable, and who knows, maybe Gaetz will get away with it too.

Abbott ordered the buses after he won a case.
It was a "twist of fate". Apparently, Abbott refused to allow the federal govt to bus people out. The feds sued him stating that they were responsible for the transport of migrants. Abbott lost, but he won the appeal.

The next day, he started transporting migrants out on buses.

Attorneys representing Venezuelan asylum-seekers flown thousands of miles to an affluent holiday island in Massachusetts at the behest of Republican governors have formally requested authorities open a criminal investigation, claiming the victims were “induced to board airplanes and cross state lines under false pretences”.

Lawyers for Civil Rights (LCR), a Boston-based group representing 30 of the 48 people flown from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday, said: “Individuals, working in concert with state officials, including the Florida governor, made numerous false promises [to the migrants] – including of work opportunities, schooling for their children, and immigration assistance – in order to induce them to travel.”

According to LCR, which is providing pro bono legal assistance to the asylum-seekers, the Venezuelans were duped in what was essentially a coordinated political stunt targeting vulnerable people based on their race and country of origin. Those flown to the holiday island included women and children as young as two years old.

LCR has written to the US attorney Rachael Rollins and the Massachusetts attorney general, Maura Healey, requesting they open criminal investigations, as “we strongly believe that criminal laws were broken by the perpetrators of this stunt”.

coming to Florida to give birth so that their babies will be American. So rich Russian tourists and their anchor babies? Come on in! Poor Central American immigrants, including mothers and newborn babies? Get on the bus!

From a 2019 AP article:

[link:https://apnews.com/article/miami-north-america-accommodations-russia-united-states-161a0db2666044dc8d42932edd9b9ce6|

MIAMI (AP) — Every year, hundreds of pregnant Russian women travel to the United States to give birth so that their child can acquire all the privileges of American citizenship.

They pay anywhere from $20,000 to sometimes more than $50,000 to brokers who arrange their travel documents, accommodations and hospital stays, often in Florida.

While the cost is high, their children will be rewarded with opportunities and travel advantages not available to their Russian countrymen. The parents themselves may benefit someday as well.

And the decidedly un-Russian climate in South Florida and the posh treatment they receive in the maternity wards — unlike dismal clinics back home — can ease the financial sting and make the practice seem more like an extended vacation.

The Russians are part of a wave of “birth tourists” that includes sizable numbers of women from China and Nigeria.

President Donald Trump has spoken out against the provision in the U.S. Constitution that allows “birthright citizenship” and has vowed to end it, although legal experts are divided on whether he can actually do that.

Although there have been scattered cases of authorities arresting operators of birth tourism agencies for visa fraud or tax evasion, coming to the U.S. to give birth is fundamentally legal. Russians interviewed by The Associated Press said they were honest about their intentions when applying for visas and even showed signed contracts with doctors and hospitals.
