In WWII. One was a Sargent in a weather sq. The other was a pilot that following the war worked for Boeing. With his education as an engineer and his experience as a pilot, he was given a lead position on the team that invented refueling in air.

Very proud of both of them

Then in WWI there was something called the Army Air Service.

So the military was flying airplanes before 1947.

For relatively minor military operations.

Then in WWI the Army Air Corps was flying in combat situations, mostly reconnaissance.
Flying over the trenches in France to determine troop movements.

When WWII broke out, it because the Army Air Force.
Air power was a serious part of the war effort.

And then after the war, the Air Force became its own branch of the service.

So my Dad who was career Air Force, originally was Army-Air Force at the beginning of WWII.
But then was Air Force.

Originally he wore an Army uniform and we thought those pictures were so odd.
We were used to him in strictly Air Force gear.

My father is deceased.

Wow so impressive that your uncle is still alive.

I hope he doesn't have to hear how the US has gone all Nazi these days.

So he was in the Army at the beginning of WWII.

We have a picture of him back then, in an Army uniform.
Before he was married or had children.

When we were young we got quite a kick out of seeing our Dad in that picture wearing an army uniform.
Dad in the Army. We couldn't wrap out heads around that one.

So then after the war it became its own branch of the service and he
wore an Air Force uniform, the kind we were used to seeing.
