Didnt hold back on Lindberghs pro-Nazi and anti-Semitic sentiments. Same for the America First movement whose current descendants, if theyre watching at all, are likely already spewing invective about the producers. Its hard to listen to the childhood memories of cruelty, hard to watch the grisly scenes of the Nazis fulfilling their intent, and impossible to pretend that we arent hearing the echoes of those horrors in the words and actions of a shocking number of governors and legislators. And those echoes are broadcast every day across our media.
Will be interesting to see if the documentary mentions Henry Ford's contributions to the Reich, along with the involvement of other American automakers.

(1,421 posts)antisemitism in part1. Will watch part 2 tomorrow.
Yes, it is hard not to see many parallels, especially when it comes to the hate filled rabble rousing and the slow but systemic application of fear and force on so many fronts.

(15,782 posts)He was heavily involved with helping to modernize the Reich's industrial processes, so much so that he received a citation from Hitler himself. Ford and other American car makers had factories in Germany that helped to produce vehicles for the German military; after the war they sued the US government for reparations for the damages caused by allied bombers. American bankers (including Walker/Bush) were part of the financial web that funded the Reich. It's no stretch to say that American interests were hedging their bets on both sides of the conflict. Ford felt safe enough to flaunt his views and force them on his employees. It's galling that our "made in America" labels are often affixed to products from companies that never had to answer for being enmeshed in Hitler's plans, says much about where human beings rate in our hierarchy of international relationships.

(32,776 posts)It left me numb. I was aware of much of it. However, by tying it together in a timeline along with events in the US and explaining the real inspiration for Hitlers manifesto it established a clear sequence of events.

(1,232 posts)wonder if they will see blowback? Need to erect a big wall around his childhood home? Quit giving tours? Maybe petition to remove "Lindbergh Drive" and replace it with another name?
Oh wait! It is the most Republican Maga area in the State with 73% red votes.

(53,823 posts)Unlike Part 1, I didn't really learn anything new, but that's OK, because I know most people probably did. Good! I don't think many understand how ingrained anti-Semitism was and is in this country. I am hoping that part 3 will expose the Congress at that time and their rank anti-Semitism, even after the horrors of the Holocaust were revealed.
