The numbers HAVE to be substantiated and add up.
Can't lie about it in courts.
Donald Trump is about to have his Al Capone day in court.

(10,123 posts)She's facing a ruthless, rabid dog.
If he hasn't already (haven't checked for his response yet), he'll go after her with whatever lies he can muster, plus, etc.
This is not going to be easy - even if she has a mountain of evidence.
And she is in more danger than she was at 11:29am today.
QAnon and MAGAt nuts will target her.
I hope they've got her back.

But this will end Trump politically.
I reviewed the Manafort case in depth.
This is quite similar.
There is little room for a lot of arguments like "executive privilege" or bickering over the wording of laws.
One presents numbers and the backup for those numbers to the bank, insurance company or IRS.
Either one can substantiate them or they can't.
When one claims as Trump did for example, that his apartment was 30,000 square feet and it was really only 11,000 square feet and that 'exaggeration' caused a $200 million swing to help justify a bank loan ... that is blatant bank fraud. No witch hunt. No debate. Blunt facts like that even Trumpers on the Manafort jury couldn't escape.
The Trump organization is a financial house of cards - everything leveraged.
He needed the protection of the Oval Office for his own legal survival from the financial folks.
A bunch of his political attraction to the MAGAts was he was an outsider to Washington who was a "successful businessman". But many of them, like the media, will not be able to escape the financial facts - that he wasn't truly successful. He was only successful temporarily as a fraudster - a mirage.
But now, the GOP have what I think they've wanted for some time: a Democrat taking Trump down so they can salvage a bunch of his base for DeSantis.
Trump is done. This is a game and a court case he cannot possibly win or financially survive.

(7,812 posts)as the history of the AG as a voting democrat!
sarcasm of course...based on repeated reporting that appears compelled to mention that 'some' claim there's a political angle to this on the part of the AG. If pundits and journalists want to analyze if there's a political angle to it then it seems to me a discussion of all the past Trump lies and fraud MIGHT illuminate the discussion. Lies and fraud are a feature, not a bug, of this group...
Would also like to see discussion on how many fraud cases are brought each year in NY and across the nation for this exact transgression...and why the laws are on the books, and how this protects citizens. I bet suits and indictments happen all the time and the question has to be asked why it shouldn't happen in this case as well.
