Last week, images emerged out of Ontarios Oakville Trafalgar High School showing one of its shop teachers conducting class whilst clad in enormous silicone breasts with visible nipples that extend below the teachers waistline.
In a statement to Postmedia last week, Halton District School Board chair Margo Shuttleworth said the teacher portrayed in the images is an industrial arts instructor who began identifying as female last year.
Clandestinely recorded by students, images of the instructor quickly exploded across social media, easily making it one of the worlds most visible Canadian news stories of the past month.
One 20-second video in particular has received nearly one million views. Circulated by an American podcaster, it shows the teacher demonstrating the use of a chop saw while gingerly ensuring the large breasts do not get caught in the machinery. I dont remember my shop teacher looking like this, reads a caption.

(7,624 posts)Those oversized silicone boobs usually dont wear well. Something this teacher is probably going to experience.
I just hope some students arent distracted by those things and cut their finger off
or worse.

(102,214 posts)But, I've observed a tendency for those in transition to be fairly extreme in "announcing" this via their physicality, as though once they move forward with their transition it is both freeing and pronounced. I'm not criticizing, just observing as it does attract often overwhelming attention so I'm assuming that is not undesirable. A case in point is the young cashier I saw last week working in a northern Colorado Costco (not Denver, but still college town) who would have gotten extreme attention regardless merely because of the extreme and very theatrical makeup. I was checking out in the line directly next to hers (assuming the pronoun) and just paused a moment to watch the reactions of those in line--mainly older couples. They were seemingly understatedly polite, which I was glad to see, but were saving their befuddled looks for those behind them in line. Surrounded as this community is by more rural communities, I'd suspect this was not a common encounter for many of them and the makeup would have been extreme for anyone wearing it, but they were seemingly curious, yet restrained and polite.
A good thing? Yes, of course. But I can't help but be curious if the attention that such a dramatic outward appearance invites--with the unusually heavy and dramatic makeup for any daytime setting-- is actually welcome and intentional at that juncture.
At any rate, I was happy to see appropriately tolerant reactions in this community.
BTW, I had not seen the picture of the shop teacher's "breasts" prior to posting this, just the commentary. My heavens. She is definitely trying to make a statement above and beyond, but what?...

(8,387 posts)Thats a miter saw, not a chop saw.
A chop saw is for cutting metal, and you can clearly see shes got a piece of wood in there.

(10,156 posts)I'm sorry but as a transgender person this is absolutely embarrassing. Like I can understand if you want to wear fake boobs but something this caliber is pretty much like I need attention. Like if you want boobs just go get surgery like I will eventually. Jesus don't make them like this big... I have no idea what this person was thinking

(24,402 posts)As a fellow Trans person, I'm forced to concur. That's.......a bit much. I used to wear falsies at the start of my transition, but they weren't anywhere near that big. They should pull her aside and tell her to find some smaller, less....noticeable ones.

(10,156 posts)I mean I get it. Breast enhancement surgery is not cheap and I'm saving up for it right now but like this is not going to help like our communities cause it's just going to give more ammunition to the fire at us

(74 posts)The school board chair has emphasized that 1) the teacher is an excellent teacher, 2) is free to express herself, and 3) will be protected against any backlash.

(38,309 posts)I didn't read those were the teacher's everyday wear.
My shop class was all boys. The girls took Home Economics. Our shop teacher was a bald conservative guy. He wore a long wig one day to demonstrate the dangers of long hair in the shop. I'm not sure he was telling the boys with long hair to tie it up so much as he was mocking those with long hair.
