A group of Louisiana students thought they were going to a career and college fair. They ended up at a church where the girls were told to forgive their rapists, boys were made to do push-ups for money, and transgender kids had water poured on their heads.

Louisiana 'Career Fair' Turns Into Church Group Telling Teen Girls to Forgive Rapists
The transgender students were bullied, the boys had to do push-up competitions for money, and many students reported being "traumatized."

On Tuesday, 2,100 Louisiana students were bussed from their Baton Rouge high schools to what they thought would be a college and career fair. Instead, they were taken to a church, separated by gender and given two wildly different, disturbingly sexist experiences.
The girl talk went first and consisted of three speakers, one of whom discussed the importance of forgiving a rapist or abuser. According to a high school student who attended the event, the speaker said that she forgave an ex-boyfriend who attempted to strangle her to death. Alexis Budyach wrote that the speaker emphasized if shed waited for the man God meant for her, then the abuse wouldnt have happened. She [used] this to essentially shame the concept of dating around and took a soulmate-esque approach on the situation, wrote Budyach. In addition, she explained that she had forgiven her ex boyfriend for his attempted murder, even if he wasnt sorry.
Another speaker, a pastor, preached abstinence and talked about how she was proud to have been a virgin throughout high school and college. And a third, a nurse, talked about suicide, according to accounts posted on Facebook by angry students and parents who felt deceived by the event.
They talked about rape, forgiving the offender in life, suicide, prayer leadership, and many more dark controversial topics, said chaperone Brittney Bryant, a high school teacher with a senior son who attended the event held at Living Faith Christian Center. We had females in the bathrooms crying due to the topics of discussion. Meanwhile, the boys were left outside in the extreme heat.

(58,785 posts)Someone should be fired and sued. This administrator's religious ambitions got out ahead even of the extremists on SCOTUS and their agenda. The sponsoring group was "29:11 Mentoring Families."
'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. ' Jeremiah 29:11
Budyachs mother spoke with The Advocate and said the flyer she received before the event had a street address, but didnt mention the religious affiliation, or she wouldnt have signed the permission slip.
Bryant pointed out that as a teacher, shes not allowed to voice her religious or political views in the classroom, yet its ok for the districts leader to support and fund an event that could cost me my career.
And,
Another added, DAY OF HOPE? More like day of trauma. You prayed over my child, told her that she should remain abstinent, talked to her about suicide, and told her that if shes being abused in a domestic violence situation that she should forgive her abuser even if hes not sorry.
Yet another commenter said, This should be a class action lawsuit. This was an extreme violation of their first amendment right to freedom of (or from) religion, as well as their 15th amendment rights of equal protection under the law. If EBR is sued enough, they will be forced to replace the sickos that held this event.

(36,747 posts)Many of our right wing brethren want to put public prayer and the Bible back in the schools.
They have no qualms about using the gov't to foist their own religious beliefs on the children in public schools without letting the parents decide how they want their children raised.

(86,515 posts)And happened to catch sight of two women set up on the next corner with signs as tall as they were. I slowed down to see what it was about and saw two women, one dressed in Salvation Army garb - hat and all and the other looking somewhat disheveled, long hair blowing around loose, tank top and shawl. I thought that was unusually interesting as you see all kinds of weird stuff in town. But when I saw the text and images on the signs it was clear they were promoting "pro-life" shit and Bible thumping all on one street corner *nothing ironic here* . As they looked back at me they saw the instant I figured them out and I burst out laughing as I continued to roll past. I was only going a block beyond so when I was returning along the same stretch of street I laughed again. Since there was a 4way stop at the corner, they got to watch me laugh again while I waited my turn.
They are desperate.
