My latest. The governors of FL, TX and AZ are Catholics who claim to be "pro-life" and defend family values. But they are using migrants as props in cruel political stunts. Pope Francis: "Migrants and refugees are not pawns on the chessboard of humanity."

The governors of Florida, Texas and Arizona are preening for television cameras as they send migrants off to cities, towns and communities led by Democrats. What makes this crass political stunt especially shameful is that all of these elected leaders are Catholics who routinely tout their pro-life credential, and claim to defend family values even as their callous treatment of immigrants violate core Christian principles and clash with bedrock Catholic teaching.
Govs. Greg Abbott of Texas, Ron DeSantis of Florida and Doug Ducey of Arizona mock sanctuary cities and have sent thousands of vulnerable migrant families fleeing violence, poverty and human trafficking to Washington, D.C., Marthas Vineyard, Chicago and New York.
While the Florida governor was busy burnishing his right-wing credentials for a likely presidential run, lay Catholics and other people of faith in Marthas Vineyard quickly mobilized to greet, feed and clothe the mostly Venezuelan migrants. This authentic expression of Christianity, rooted in the biblical imperative to welcome the stranger, stood in stark contrast to the governors craven political theater, which in comparison to those acts of compassion and human decency looked petty and cruel.
Cardinal Sean OMalley of Boston denounced the stunt and called for Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform. Our common humanity is the lens through which our response to immigrants and refugees must be judged, the cardinal said.

The men deserve some rights and autonomy, unlike those third-class worthless vessels, women.
