Surprise Surprise
by Josh Marshall
One of the questions Ive mentioned a few times in the DeSantis Vineyard story is that the company Florida is paying for the migrant flights isnt the one which is actually running the flights. The former is Vertol Systems, newly of Florida, and the latter Ohio-based Ultimate Jet Charters. Vertol is mostly a helicopter company and doesnt seem to have the kind of planes needed for this kind of work, which sort of raises the questions of why they got the contract. (Since the news of all this broke Vertol took its website offline.) Since Vertol cant do it, theyve subcontracted the work to Ultimate Jet Charters. This new Miami Herald article goes into all the details and reveals that Vertol has close ties to Larry Keefe, the DeSantis appointee charged with running his anti-immigration policies. Who could have guessed.
Of course, this isnt the first state contract given to a governors cronies and it doesnt get us closer to knowing the real question: who is DeSantis working with in Texas? And wheres Perla?

DeSantis didn't care what it cost. This is how he rolls.
I still don't understand why he's involved when the immigrants came from Texas.
Why isn't this a black mark on Greg Abbott?

(6,847 posts)7. That's why the OP ends by saying "Where's Perla?"
Not to mention "Who is Perla?" - besides some woman in Texas who worked with DeSantis on setting this all up.

(113,259 posts)5. If I were a resident of that state, I would be DEMANDING an accounting of
the 12 million this piece of human trafficking/cruelty cost. Itemized down to the last centime.
pity we cannot deduct 12 million from the federal aid the state gets. But that would hurt those who need it.

as soon as the next hurrican hits and they want federal assistance.
