(33,643 posts)And not just because I'm cynical about our Justice system when it comes to rich white guys.
It's also because if he solicited a 17 year old for sex for money (which was about the extent of the accusation as far as I ever saw), it would be a state-level charge.
If provable (which is not that easy to do when years have passed), such charges might happen, but it won't be 'trafficking'.

Greenberg's attorney Fritz Scheller reacts: I have not received any information from the government regarding its decision to abandon its investigation and prosecution [of Matt Gaetz]. Nevertheless, based on my knowledge of the evidence, I would be surprised by such a decision.

Scheller represents Joel Greenberg, the former Seminole County tax collector awaiting sentencing for sex trafficking and other crimes. Greenberg has been cooperating with the feds and reportedly has given them information about Gaetz, specifically.

The DOJ under Garland is not known for leaking. Perhaps we should be interested in where this *information* came from.

No trafficking charge != no investigation whatsoever.
I guess time will tell.

(5,351 posts)Yep, I'll believe the case is dropped if/when the DOJ confirms it, not because unnamed sources say prosecutors aren't going to recommend charges for Gaetz.

(13,964 posts)Maybe the case wasnt strong enough. Federal prosecutors generally only indict when theyre sure theyll get a conviction.

(33,643 posts)But it's POSSIBLE that the evidence and/or the law ... doesn't support a trafficking charge based on whatever actions Gaetz took.

(21,563 posts)Whatever his name was. And spend a year pushing out his sentencing because he was still cooperating and after all that time they came up with nothing? So WTF were they doing for the last year???

(22,112 posts)Why did Gaetz want a pardon then, when tRUMP was offering them? Does that count for anything?
Good God, do your damn job. Investigate deeper. One guy (former friend of Gaetz) was to even testify/perhaps did. I know that they said that the witnesses pulled out, but surely there is more to this case ?
