(16,070 posts)It's the fact that Greenburg is not seen as a reliable witness.
Short of having Gaetz on video, a good defense attorney will be able to show that Greenburg is pond scum...and will say anything to lessen his prison time! And with his father's money, Gaetz will have the best attorney that that money can buy!
"Greenberg has been cooperating with authorities, and though it seems he could provide evidence to incriminate Gaetz, its not shocking that the man who faced 33 federal charges ranging from identity theft to embezzlement to sex trafficking isnt considered a reliable witness."

(2,357 posts)was recorded by a surveillance camera late at night. The two of them were rummaging through the expired driver licenses collected by Greenburg (Floridians can renew their licenses at the tax collector's office). They were looking for licenses that were supposedly a good fit for someone who needed a different ID...for some reason. The video was b&w and grainy because the office was not well lit. Believe it was on PBS some months ago.

Greenberg's attorney Fritz Scheller reacts: I have not received any information from the government regarding its decision to abandon its investigation and prosecution [of Matt Gaetz]. Nevertheless, based on my knowledge of the evidence, I would be surprised by such a decision.

Scheller represents Joel Greenberg, the former Seminole County tax collector awaiting sentencing for sex trafficking and other crimes. Greenberg has been cooperating with the feds and reportedly has given them information about Gaetz, specifically.

The DOJ under Garland is not known for leaking. Perhaps we should be interested in where this *information* came from.

(31,965 posts)And they are known for that just like every DOJ administration before them. Where do you think all the leaks about the Trump documents came from?

(16,070 posts)If they can't/won't prosecute Gaetz...then there shouldn't be a deal with Greenburg!
But I don't believe that the prosecutors were ever serious about going after Gaetz!

(17,000 posts)ex-girlfriend and the buddy who pled guilty to sex-trafficking the same girl. Neither are reliable enough witnesses to make the case.

(33,554 posts)you know how many mobsters they convict on the testimony of other mobsters?
You don't need a nun and a boy scout to testify.
There should be enough evidence if they want to proceed.
