I have the mother of all COVID cases...

Last edited Fri Sep 23, 2022, 06:58 PM - Edit history (1)

Late Tuesday night I felt like crap. Headache, body aches, nausea, horrible diarrhea (TMI sorry), no fever though. So I took a rapid test early Wednesday morning and...crap. Faint even after 20 minutes, but that's a positive.

Wednesday was basically a mild flu/bad cold day - chills (no fever though) and body ache, nasty headache, a bit of a cough/sneeze, and more poop. That seems to be my major symptom, cuz of course. Yesterday was much better, just a little cold-like symptoms, poop getting better. Woke up today feeling about 95% better so I figured I'd test again…gotta be negative, given the last one was so faint and I'm better, right?

This pic was literally as soon as the liquid had saturated the test kit. 15 *seconds*, not 15 *minutes*. ELISA tests (the rapid ones) aren't quantitative, they can't give you a specific count of your viral load, but they are they are descriptive insomuch as "A brighter line indicates the patient has more virus in their body and is likely to be sicker and more infectious."*

So I currently have an absolutely insane viral load, I'm locked in my apartment in terror of infecting others — and I'm so unaffected I am seriously considering putting my bike on the trainer stand for a workout cuz I feel so good. Oh, I should mention I'm triple-shot. Vaccines work.

Be well.

2. Call your doctor. Paxlovid works, but only in the first few days of symptoms.

Meanwhile also load up on anything with ginger and turmeric, which have anti-inflammatory properties.

But you sound like you could be a candidate for Paxlovid, an anti-viral that is very effective in treating COVID if given promptly.

Feel better!

9. I'm pretty sure I don't need treatment - I don't need to feel better, I don't feel bad!

I'm in my third or fourth day and my symptoms have almost completely abated. They were the first 48 hours. Quite seriously, I would be capable if not comfortable running 5K. Thank you for the well wishes though!

10. As near as I can tell I have recovered.

Of course I'm keeping a close eye on things but I had the worst symptoms with the weakest line, and now I feel 98% good despite being a virus-ridden plague rat. Vaccines work!

13. Honestly if my next test is + - that's just more time off work.

I feel very good, and as a lifelong runner I have a very good handle on my lungs – I've been doing deep-breathing exercises every day since I tested pos and I'm fine. I do have a cough but it's quite productive so I'm not worried, as I said I'm probably gonna set up my trainer and do some indoor cycling tomorrow! Vaccines work.

11. I'm honestly not sure. I'm in DC, masking is almost non-existent.

I do wear a mask on the Metro and in Ubers, but TBH I don't bother anywhere else…it's about 15-25% masking in any other environment so short of wearing an N95 all the time it's just not worth it. I accepted the risk, I took my chances, and…well. I will absolutely lockdown until I'm clear.

and likely passed it on to others

I really wish people would keep masking for the time being....

It's great that you are feeling better.

I received the new omicron/bivalent booster last week. I did feel a bit run down and flu-like (I was warned about that by the pharmacist), but it just lasted a few hours.

And I absolutely will continue to mask indefinitely. And I really don't care if I am the only one. Luckily most folks around here are still masking.

Get well!

That's what I find…intriguing, I had the worst symptoms with the least viral load, now that I'm a massively infected plague rat I feel so good I'm considering an intense cardio workout. Vaccines work.

Wed - got the shot

Well worth the protection and peace of mind.

But after my 90-day (I think, need to check with my doc) wait for my 4th after this infection - I'm in! If I have to deal with this once every year or two in exchange for usual boosters, well, it's a fair shake.
