GRAPHIC: Woman hit by train while in police cruiser parked on tracks
PLATTEVILLE, Colo. (KMGH) A freight train collided into a police cruiser parked on train tracks with a woman trapped inside.
Locked inside the cruiser was 20-year-old Yareni Rios-Gonzalez. Police detained her for an alleged road rage incident earlier in the night Sept. 16.
About one minute and nine seconds after Rios-Gonzalez was placed in the back, the trains horn is heard for the first time in the distance on a newly released bodycam recording.
About seven seconds later, another louder horn but still no reaction from police.
Over the next eight seconds, even more horns are heard before the two officers realize Rios-Gonzalez is in danger. By then it was too late.
Paul Wilkinson, a personal injury attorney representing the woman, said she is awake and able to have a conversation but remains in the hospital.
She has a broken arm that she has had surgery on, nine broken ribs, a fractured sternum, broken teeth, injuries to her leg, back and head, Wilkinson said.

A HERETIC I AM
(24,365 posts)I've seen cops (I think we all have) needlessly block entryways to parking lots and intersections and will seemingly park to deliberately cause others inconvenience, and if they just moved their cruiser a short distance, no one would be affected. I saw one do that the day before yesterday. Pulled over someone in a shopping center parking lot and there were plenty of spaces next to the pulled over vehicle the cop could have parked his unit, but he decided to park diagonally ACROSS THE DRIVEWAY, forcing anyone who wanted to enter or exit to take the long way around.
I reject the idea that they do that stupid shit for "officer safety". That is such an overused canard it isn't funny. Being a cop IS NOT DANGEROUS. My job is WAY more dangerous than being a fucking police officer. They just want us all to think it's dangerous so they get special treatment.
The worst thing about this incident is they left her in that car without a single concern as to the potential danger, otherwise they wouldn't have parked the fucking car on railroad tracks. Assholes.

(9,962 posts)in the Guardian. I think they did it on purpose. You NEVER park your car on a train track. NEVER! Assholes. Oh wait. I retract that. Assholes serve a useful function. These MFers serve none. Compost them.
