Mar-a-Lago has been flooded with 'vulgar redneck types' since Trump lost: local author

Tom Boggioni
September 24, 2022

During an appearance on MSNBC to discuss Donald Trump's reported valuation of Mar-a-Lago at $739 million, local author and historian Laurence Leamer claimed that there is a new breed of members at the resort since the former president became the former president and that they don't fit into the Palm Beach social scene.

Speaking with host Alex Witt, Leamer was reminded of a previous appearance on the network, right after Trump had lost to now-President Joe Biden, when he claimed it had become a "sad place."

At that time, he stated, "What's fascinating — I've talked to a bunch of people the last couple of days. A lot of people have quit Mar-a-Lago. They don't want their names to be in The Washington Post or The New York Times, and the list of people that have quit, they've silently walked out. They don't want anything to do with Donald Trump. And many of the members, they're not going there very often, because it's a very dispirited place. They're not concerned about politics. It's a sad place for Trump to be hanging out. It's not what it was."

snip

"No, it has changed," he continued. "I mean this is a new class of people coming in. These true Trump believers that have the bucks and tend to be a vulgar kind of redneck types and wouldn't be welcomed in Palm Beach otherwise."

Many people including myself can't afford dental coverage.
You know what would fix that? Medicare For All, so people like me and the millions of others could have the dental care we need....

Memes like this upset me because they lack class consciousness of any sort. This reminds me of when I was in middle school and high school when people made fun of others with how they look. Policy is 1 thing but this sort of stuff? It impacts everyone across political divide.....

May I suggest this instead perhaps? lol

It sucks and it's kind of ironic I'm typing this with a huge toothache right this second that I don't have the financial means to fix. And Medicaid has no dental........It sucks royally. I don't want to be in pain & this sucks. Healthcare is a human right & shouldn't be a privilege.

Bwahahahahaha

I remember hearing that when TFG was younger he tried to get in with the NY Old Money set, the people with standards for public behavior, class, good taste, and culture. His efforts were a total bust and he never forgave them.

At one point during his misbegotten presidency I started hoping that he and his spawn would be busted down so far that they would end up back in Ye Old Family Honkytonk and Whorehouse in the Yukon. Looks like they won’t have to travel that far if this keeps up.

Which is a bit of a contradiction in itself, but that’s tangential.

A scientific study on the correlation between wealth, income, intelligence and education (all separate things) would be pretty interesting, but I would expect to see some kind of positive relationship between income and intelligence as well as income and education. Wealth is more of a generational outcome of privilege, I think.

It's true they also have poor whites which they need for numbers to win.

But it was always bs that most if those supporting Trump had economic anxiety while Democrats were coastal elites.

Those rioters included many people from blue areas. remember those women overdosed on plastic surgery and botox from san Francisco and Beverly Hills supporting Trump .

There were articles in 2016 about how “economic insecurity” was a major motivator of votes for Trump, and shouldn’t we all be sympathetic? But data showed that most were actually solidly middle class and above even though many had only a high school education or vocational training, eg self employed plumbers. The poorest voters supported Clinton, generally. Later studies showed there was more evidence that sexism and racism, and not economic anxiety, drove many Trump voters.

So these Mar-a-Lago stories just provide more evidence that “economic insecurity” had little to do with Trumpy motivation.

That guy Reminds of someone I knew with a nice chunk of change. Very direct. He said what he thought in a conversation. Most based on experience and facts. I can see that Trump wouldn’t want him in the same room.

Th question about the “kids” wasn’t very good. They were and are Executive VP’s of the entity being sued. By position they had to be involved or aware of decisions being made. Unless they were just the boss’s kids draining money.
