It is like a disease, a painful cancer.
When Judge Dearie offered some relief by demanding the "liars" respond by next Friday whether or not they can name the documents that were "planted" by the FBI. It couldn't be that the documents were stolen and now the former president is lying about it? Just as he lies about everything. Judge Dearie's words were like morphine for our pain.
It is only when the lies are called out and exposed that we can get any relief. It is the only way we can get better as a country. Nobody believed that the lies could be so dangerous or so deadly. But now we see that they can destroy our democracy and our country. They must be stopped.

(43,115 posts)But lies have run the country for decades. Where do you start to measure? It's influence on business from Reagan's election? Advertising and lies sold products. From the Federal Reserve Act? Loose money moves the economy. From the "Deep State"? From private interests touting the public good? From Prohibition and Hoover's FBI? From psychological consultants used to sway public opinion? My point being we have come to accept lies as normal. TDFG knew how to exploit public perception. It will be hard to replace lies with truth telling.

(111,072 posts)From politicians, business people, and just general population. But we have never had people that could lie so effectively about crimes, the business environment, and reality itself.
It eats at the soul of our country, unlike any other time in our history, in my opinion. Because they are able to get so many of our fellow citizens to believe it, at the physical detriment of us all. It divides us in an irreparable way.

I have no clue. If you are able it is much easier to just stick your head in the sand, I do feel like walking away from this insanity and just saying f it all.
Maybe things were like this all along and I didnt notice it, no I dont really believe that lol.
Just look at some of the crazy crap on tv. The so called science channel has almost no science.

(7,263 posts)That is the purpose of negative postings on blogs like this - some, by no means all, are meant to wear us down little by little until we just throw up our hands and give up, stay home and don't vote. (I am most definately not referring to above post by Meowmee. This post just brought this topic to mind. Meowmee- no offense intended, apology in advance.)
This strategy has been used by political strategists throughout Democracy's history to discourage the majority from really coming together and getting things done.
Defeatism is a strategy the Christo-fascist use very very well, especially online. It is so successful because it seems so harmless to vent, but when the many separate posts accumulate, they really chill the mood.
Don't be fooled.
Simple remedy, If one gets discouraged, take a break from online pressure cooker. Take some time to decompress.
Go outside. Smell the flowers. Take a walk. Take a drive. Take a vacation. Throw an ax. Dance. Go to a hilltop and give a primal scream. Scratch that itch. Sing. Play a game. Do yoga. Run. Sleep. Read a fun novel. Play with your kids. Play with your grand kids. Play.
Then come back recharged and get ready for a ROEVEMBER to REMEMBER

(5,164 posts)But since you replied to me I feel I need to say that after I became a citizen at 24, I have voted for dems in every single election. I would never not vote, never. I know what the consequences are and I know there is only one choice, and that is against fascism. I have encouraged people here to do that many times in replies here.
That is part of what makes me want to give up on this country, I think I already have really to be honest, the fact that people could be so weak they would not vote because of some thing they read on the forum or whatever.
Its whats going on in the country thats making me feel this way, not posts on a forum, although I have to say there are a lot of nasty people online and I dont think theyre all trolls. It is the lack of accountability and the handling of many things including and mainly the pandemic. It is also interactions with real world people. And policies that have harmed us.
As for the TV shows I am old enough to remember when there was actual science programming on TV, and the slow progression of the reality / confrontational crap, the nutcase shows, the woo science programs and other things like that, they are a sign of what is happening to the society. Yes its been going on for a long time, but its part of what built up to whats going on now. Can you watch them as entertainment, yes maybe at times, but many stupid people think they are real etc.
Even with the fact that I have given up, I am still voting for dems and against fascism, no matter what. And I am telling everyone to do the same if you dont want to live under fascism, which will make what we have already gone through for 6 years look like a joke.

(1,678 posts)In everything he writes, Andy offers perspective that leaves you seeing your world and your life in a completely different way. He mines history for examples and then applies what he has learned to his readers lives...
Through the lens of the Holocaust, Andy examines how Hitler was able to get eleven million people to march to their deaths with so little resistance. In short, he lied to them. And, sadly, they believed it. If the truth is what sets us free, we need to ask what it means to live in a society where truth is absent, where we are routinely lied to by politicians of both parties, Wall Street, and the media. What is at stake? Can we survive in such a culture of deception? Our only hope, Andy argues, is an informed citizenry that demands truth at every levelfirst from themselves and second from their leaders. We must be able to separate fact from fiction, truth from lies, and hold those who lie accountable.
This is a short book. You can literally read it in less than an hour. But dont be fooled by its size. Its a little book that could be the start of something very big. Its a book you will want to read for yourself and then give to others.
