Vladimir Putin has escaped to his secret palace amid anti-draft protests in Russia, per a report.

OVD-Info said 724 people were detained across 32 different cities on Saturday.
Putin intends to stay at the palace until at least Thursday, a journalist said, citing three sources.
Russian President Vladimir Putin escaped to his secret palace near Gelendzhik, close to the Black Sea coast, amid anti-draft protests in Russia, MailOnline was first to report.

According to independent journalist Farida Rusamova, who cited three sources familiar with Putin's schedule, the Russian president traveled to his vacation home on Wednesday.

He has been resting his "body and soul" there, Rusamova said in a Telegram post, enjoying the facilities of the palace, which Putin publicly denies belongs to him.

If he thinks this will just die down, he's wrong. The Russian state will probably use ever more violent responses to the protests, which will in turn increase the levels of protest.

Brutal suppression might work, except that conscriptions will continue, so the conflict will continue. And winter is coming.

Unfortunately, it may take more than that to bring the whole country out to the streets. The strikes and riots in Petrograd back in 1917 didn't reach a fever pitch until returning war veterans joined in. And the police aren't turning against the current czar yet.
Let's not forget the government that replaced Nicholas was a thousand times worse.

The mysterious "Putin's Palace" that featured in a viral video by Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny appeared to be full of luxuries gifted to President Vladimir Putin by wealthy friends. But then Russian TV broadcast a completely different report.

Gone was the sprawling palace's voluptuous decor, replaced instead by bare, concrete walls. The property looked as if it was being thoroughly rebuilt - raising questions about what exactly is happening at the estate.

The Navalny investigation video has racked up more than 110m views since its release. The Kremlin vehemently denies the palace claims, and President Putin has labelled it "boring" and a "compilation and montage". Since then Navalny has been jailed for failing to report to the prison service while he was recovering from a nerve agent attack in a Berlin hospital.

But BBC Russian has spoken to several builders who say they worked at the site of the palace between 2005 and 2020, building and then refurbishing it. They confirmed many of the allegations in the Navalny video - including that the palace was being rebuilt in part due to a mould infestation.
