https://newatlas.com/science/baby-taste-womb-pregnancy-imaging-faces-kale/"An extraordinary new study has recorded the first evidence of babies in the womb reacting to flavors of foods eaten by their mothers. The stunning images show fetuses crumpling up their faces in disgust minutes after a mother consumes bitter kale or smiling with glee in the presence of sweet carrot flavors."

Seriously, if you like it, go for it, but I find the taste bitter and awful.

(33,310 posts)If you're going to eat it uncooked, I recommend massaging the leaves prior to dressing the salad. It can also macerate in the dressing for a while. Makes it much more palatable.
Cooked kale is fantastic, like most greens.

(2,018 posts)Im amazed at all the people who have shared this ridiculousness.
Basic medical facts:
1. Fetuses cant taste anything. They dont take in anything by mouth, the only location for taste sensors.
2. The images are highly suspect. Muscles are not yet well developed for smiling and even less for frowning.
Political fact:
Sharing this idiocy only plays to the trolls who want to claim a fetus is a baaayyyy-beeee to oppress women.

(15,265 posts)However Durhams Fetal Neonatal Research Lab. Durham University, seems pretty legitimate. Maybe you should contact them with your expertise on the matter to let them know that their findings are bogus.

(1,706 posts)Fetuses swallow amniotic fluid, which is flavored by what the mother ingests.

(58,785 posts)Wish I'd known this when I was pregnant. I didn't inflict bitter greens, but also never touched carrots. And I would have choked them down.
It's going to be a real advance if we discover that (to-be-born) babies can be encouraged to like certain foods because their mothers ate them (or didn't) while they were in utero.
