(reportedly) a third of the electorate stays home. Never invite the vampires in bc despite the pleasant smiles, the empty but glorious promises, they'll ultimately go for your throat!

Especially once Steve Bannon goes to prison. He's one of the main orchestrators of her election, and a lot of the push for white nationalism in Italy and other parts of Europe. It will also be interesting to see how Pope Francis deals with it.

He first took office in 1922, just a hindred years ago.

There was a brief time when soe Germans called Hitler "our Mussolini."

Let's hope for fewer copycats this time around.

Even as it was, he was so polarizing that his oponentsm after they executed him, hanged his body upsode down in the public square, and his supportes stole the body and sent iton tour as if it were a holy relic (and vowed to keep the flame of fascism alive - started a new party essentially named "flame" - and that party is still around and Giorgia Meloni is the leader of it now.)

Completely off topic - but something I learned watching "Finding Your Roots" is that her surname - "Meloni" - probably means whe had a male ancestor who was anonymously turned over to an orphanage as an infant, and given the surname "Meloni" due to the shape of his head.

Italy has had 70 changes in government since the end of WWII. Hopefully this one will end on schedule.

If Ted Cruz approves, it’s gotta be absolutely wretched for the rest of us.

There it is.

Only a matter of time before she starts spouting off nonsense of the "Greater Good" and that there are no individuals - only the State(Country).

There was relatively little antisemitism in fascist Italy before 1938. There were Jews in senior positions in the National Fascist Party, and Mussolini had a Jewish mistress.

The point is, you can have full blown fascism without heavy antisemitism or the extermination camps.

Take away antisemitism, you have Mussolini
Take away imperialism, you have Franco
Take away colonialism, you have Pinochet

It's all still fascism
