the case, at all.

Back in the 80s there was a POW situation during the first Gulf War, and the family and people around him were advised to not make any public comment.

What is she supposed to say?

I'm going to guess her primary competence is coaching basketball. Why the fuck should anyone give a shit what her dumb opinions about anything else might be?

But if some kid I used to teach was being held hostage by some autocratic asshat eight thousand miles from home, "no comment" is probably the last thing I'd think to say.

Then I would hope some dumbass coach of mine for years ago just kept their mouth shut.

I don’t understand why people think increasing the “hostage value” of people in situations like this is helpful.

It's not like the dictator is going to be like, "Oh, this hostage isn't worth much. Guess I'll let them go."

she also gave a full throated defense of the Baylor football players sexually assaulting female students.

Fortunately for her, none of the women were her players. Just guessing she would have reacted differently

LSU (her current employer): we know you may get asked about Griner by the media as you used to be a Baylor coach, but we'd prefer you don't, at least not in a professional capacity, wearing our colors in front of our logo. You don't work there anymore, so ...

This coach: Makes sense, sure, okay.

And haven't spoken for a decade. Seems kind of like a gotcha question to me.
But it also seems like Mulkey is trash.

And she can't give a least a cursory statement about her situation? Mulkey is a very odious person though. She once kept calling a black Louisville player "that girl" and had to be reminded that the 'girl' has a name. She also famouly tore off her covid mask at a press conference. She is a definitely a MAGA.
