CNN —

Hurricane Ian has strengthened into a powerful Category 4 storm as it churns toward Florida, packing sustained winds of 140 mph, the National Hurricane Center says.

Millions are being urged to evacuate as powerful Hurricane Ian barrels towards Florida, packing the potential for catastrophic flooding and life-threatening storm surge.

The Category 3 hurricane walloped Cuba after making landfall Tuesday morning, flooding fields, toppling trees and knocking out the island’s power grid.

Ian, now packing powerful 120 mph sustained winds, is expected to slam into the Florida peninsula Wednesday afternoon to evening as a monster Category 3 or Category 4 hurricane, likely somewhere between Sarasota and Port Charlotte, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane Ian knocked out power to all of Cuba and is now heading toward Florida where officials urge evacuations

The eye will hit Lee/Charlotte Counties later this morning. Have not lost power yet and I am in a rehab center with a back up generator and do not expect to be without power throughout the day. My location is South Fort Myers in Lee County.

P.S. The political ads for Desantis going on right now during this Hurricane is really disgusting not to mention creepy.

My grandson is in Cape Coral staying with his college roommate and family. I will be climbing the walls until I know once it’s over and he is safe.

Florida is getting pretty good at this. We have several strategic locations for ambulance/fire/electric.
