(25,816 posts)We are so lucky that he is still with us.
He is the one President I would dearly love to meet, or at least be in the same room with, but that probably will never happen. I still am grateful that I have lived in his lifetime.
He was the first President I ever voted for.

(204,811 posts)And I now have his autobiography, "A Full Life: Reflections at 90," which I recommend highly - and I learned so much, including that I was right to like and support him, turns out I agree with him on pretty much everything.

Happy Birthday to the POTUS I voted for him in my first election in 1980 when I turned 18!
Raygun was a monster and we all knew he would be...at least anyone with a triple digit IQ.
My friends in at Parsons School of Design in NYC HATED him and we actually were not at all concerned when he was shot, actually we didn't give a shit.
However, when Lennon was shot we did give more than a shit...we knew who the real assholes were. Nothing changes....the GQP is the same anti-humanity party as it was in 1980 as it is now.
Looking back over the years I am 100% convinced that the US is never going change in my lifetime. That makes me so angry I can hardly stand it.

(54,302 posts)I never got to meet him, but Fritz Mondale was an old family friend, and we sat 50 feet away from Carter as he gave his first Gridiron Club speech in 1977.

(2,035 posts)I was fortunate enough to have met then Gov Carter at a picnic at the home of Virginia Lt. Gov Henry Howell in 1975. And again when he came to Norfolk, VA as president for a campaign rally for gubernatorial candidate Henry Howell. Very grateful to have had those opportunities.

(13,912 posts)I wasnt alive when he was president but his post presidency career has been phenomenal. Hes such a caring man, the exact opposite of a Republican. Also, looking at him makes me remember that not all devout Christians are fascist nutcases.
