President Joe Biden on Thursday said Hurricane Ian may have been responsible for "substantial loss of life" and could end up being the deadliest storm in Florida history.

More than 2.5 million customers across Florida were without power Thursday morning after Ian, now a tropical storm, walloped the state as one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the United States, causing widespread devastation and flooding that trapped residents in their homes.

That would mean more than those Florida storms listed here

...44 total, with only 15 directly because of the storm.

Although I suspect the toll may have been considerably higher as it hit an area with a significant population of undocumented immigrants.

Michael and Irma both killed 7 people directly in Florida.

Much, much worse were the unnamed storms of the first half of the 20th Century.

900 people died in a Florida Keys storm in 1919, 409 people died in the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane and a jaw-dropping 2,500 died in the 1928 Lake Okeechobee storm.

They make Biden's comment scary.

And yes they do note that in some instances many people were missing and then there are the undocumented folks
