Dems were never going to vote for him. He’s still anti-choice, anti-LGBTQ, anti-immigrant. Landfall was in a heavy repuke area and I don’t think any of them are going to be thinking about voting. They’ll be finding out what shit home owners insurance they have and looking for someone to blame for that.

Democrats will vote for Crist, the question is: will DeSantis voters pull away from him.

Anecdotally, I know people like my parents. They're Republicans but not politically active and often don't vote. They despised Trump, and actually voted for Biden, the first time my mom voted for a Dem ever. My dad is a lot less rigid than her, but also less likely to vote.

They vote in Florida. If they feel compelled to vote in this election will depend on how things go. So I think you're right. If he botches this response or continues on the path of cruelty, they'll most likely skip the vote. (I doubt they'd vote for Crist in this election. With Trump, they skipped 2016 and broke down and voted in 2020 bc he was so awful.)

I think a lot of their friends may be in a similar boat. Thye're relatively well off retired folks with a primary home in Florida and a secondary home up north where they grew up. A lot of people like them in Florida. DeSantis is the one who will control whether people feel inspired to vote for him or not. (And a lot of that will ride on a successful response to this storm.)

Folks were claiming that displaced folks from PR, upset with Trump, would swing Florida our way.

I dont reckon there is any politicking natural disasters

Charlie Crist had momentum, but that is now put on hold. The recovery from this storm will be ongoing, and that turd cocktail will make the argument not to change midstream during disaster recovery. The MSM can now ignore how much of a shit he is and has been.

could lose him the election. A good response probably would improve his standing, especially if it makes them forget the migrant scandal that was developing just beforehand (although hopefully the matter doesn't just go away). It seems like, given his status as the state's governor, a good competent response should just be the standard expectation, but I know how much the media and pundits love to fawn over Republicans when they manage to tie their shoes without messing it up.
