SCOTUS May Give State Legislatures Right To Overturn Elections

Dahlia Lithwick explains the existential danger of this Supreme Court term.

By Susie Madrak — October 4, 2022
Dahlia Lithwick pointed out to Rachel Maddow last night how important it is to pay attention to all the moving parts of democracy.

"This is sort of the time if you are concerned about democracy, if you are concerned about what's happening in your state, now, today's the day, where we are far enough in the election, where you still have time to ask yourself -- what am I gonna say I did? What was my role in helping? How did I participate in trying to hold up this thing that I say I value," Maddow said.

"One of the things that I'm scared about, is that one of the things we tell each other, about how to make change is to vote, I'm very worried about the Voting Rights Act, and what they will be hearing tomorrow. What are your expectations in terms of the dilution of voting rights for minorities, and threats to the court this year?"

And to add to this right wing fascist court being led by that whining Roberts, this court has a justice on the bench (Gorsuch that should not even be sitting there because of #Moscow Mitch stunt) that is going to make a determination in the EPA on water rights, and his mother (Gorsuch) wanted to dismantle the EPA while in the Ronnie Raygun administrations, that POS. Gorsuch should have recused himself, and the new justice on the court, Justice Brown basically took Gorsuch down a couple of places with his BS questioning on the case.......

Just jump to the state legislatures and skip the expense and hassle of an election that might not go the way the legislatures want.

There will be 52 independent countries, with 52 state currencies and probably tolls at every state line. Forget all national entities: military, intelligence, justice, ecology, social security, affordable care act, Medicare and medicaid, on and on. Passports are worthless, everything de-regulated. Seriously, how will major companies do business in 52 different countries? Because if they don't recognize federal elections, nothing survives.

No one will pay federal taxes, the senate and house are irrelevant. It's a civil war, and it will be actual warfare.

Watch any dystopia nightmare film: it will be worse.

Among other things. It doesn’t fix everything, but it’s a start.
