400-Foot-Long Trailer Carrying Radioactive Material Is On Secret Mission to a dump site in Utah... (

How do you hide a 400-foot-long, 192-wheel trailer as it's slowly being hauled on a three-week-long secret mission over highways in Southern California, Nevada and Utah?

The reason for the sheer size and the sort-of secrecy: the cargo being hauled, as CBS News reports, is a "797,000-pound piece of 'slightly radioactive' steel from the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station near San Diego." It's being taken to a dump site in Clive, Utah

I was hopping the story was about ROMNEY.

They have had it on the local San Diego news for the last couple of nights, trying to reassure us that any radioactivity we could get if we went past the truck would only be the equivilent of a dental xray.

Nice way to keep it secret, huh?

I didn't do a google search .. did you?

I know Utah fairly well after living in Colorado, and I never heard of it either.

But on Map Quest, it shows the area just west of the city & Great Salt Lake.

about 40 miles or so out of Wendover. I don't know how far it is from the turnoff though.

Is this a single use trailer, that gets buried with the cargo b/c of absorbed radioactivity? How many axles for the 192 wheels? 48? How are the axles steered? How are the 5 pusher trucks connected? Or do they just do a Dale Earnhart on the bumper? Is this a solid piece, like a turbine shaft, or a hollow piece like a piece of pipe? How the hell do they stop it? Air brakes? How big is the compressor for( assumed) 96 brakes? Damn, wish there was more info on how its done...
