Are we driven by hate of trump?

Close trumper family member told me that my husband and I were.

So had to stop and think, am I? Are we?

I'd like to think and know that we are not, but why are we only half a country? Can you blame it all on the media? When his egregious, immoral, and criminal actions seem so crystal clear to us?

Anyone else going through this family dilemma? I want it all to be over!

74. This is what the Trumpists don't understand

and why they think we just hate Trump because…because we want to, or something.

It’s because they are driven by hate. That’s the lens through which they see the world, so they think everyone is also all about hate.

But we’re not. We see the good in humanity. Maybe to a fault, sometimes, which leads so many on our side to keep trying to work with right wing Trumpists.

Just my thoughts. Who knows….

My whole family has hated trump from the get go. But trump is more corrupt than even we gave him credit for.

If Clinton or Obama had done even half of what he's done they would be indicted by now! There is no doubt in my mind!

I don't understand what the hold up is!

23. Americans are lazy.

It is too much work to verify news, etc. It is much easier for Americans to let the media think for them (I use the word "think" with discretion). We have been like this for as long as I can remember. Very, very depressing and frustrating.

26. It's not even half the electorate which is 32% Dem...

28% repub and 40% Independent. And the rest are non-voters so it's not close to half the nation.

The repugs only win by cheating, vote suppression, fear-mongering, gerrymandering and dirty tricks...and of course the antiquated EC and the filibuster which allows their minority to control the majority.

35. You're right. I should have said half the electorate..

Only basing on polls of which way they would vote in 2024. Using 1/2 very loosely.

Agree Rs use those tactics too. But that does not explain why people don't believe or haven't turned completely against trump given the outrageousness of it all. Why isn't he being completely dissed by all but the cultists? If we're talking about a voters, I mean they'll wear enough to get their bodies to the polls.

explained away. J 6 - fired up rally yes out of hand but they meant business. Hiding Covid and 140k died - not to panic. Bribing Ukraine - shit about Biden. Love interests - millions of women adored me.

He always has a simple, very simple, one line excuse! And people don't take time to think and read.

No haven't asked about redeeming qualities. I know what they'd say .... Gas prices and inflation.

And if your family member('s) would bother to look into the Repugnant House and Senate votes the last year and a half... they have ALL voted against legislation to keep both under control in the USA. Geesh ... and anyway what does that all have to do with any redeeming qualities about #45?

Ask them if they ever heard of GASLIGHTING ??? Hope this helps, Happy Halloween and hugs. Goodnight.

52. And this is where the term "simple minded" comes from.

The simple minded voters want simple answers and simple explanations. For them to understand, they see things as either black or white, no grey area. They cannot possibly think in more than simple terms. They are very intellectually lazy also. However, I do believe that they are not the majority and I try to keep that in mind.

Think Jan 6 might have been a major turning point in opinion if we didn't lump average Joe dipshits in with violent insurrectionists on Jan 6. It automatically alienated all of them? Yes trump led them based on a lie.. but not ALL of the Rs.

BTW, they think the ridiculous thought that the CIA was behind J6. With 100% zero evidence despite WaPo, Fox, PBS, NPR, Capitol Police, FBI, National Guard, Newsweek, Time, NYT, Pentagon, House, Senate, President looking at it closely

that is all I need to know.

Democrats stand for every person, every shape, every gender and every life and even they at least try to help everyone. Progress is power and they are at least trying to move forward.

Trump stood for himself and grifting and his self loathing magats couldn't or wouldn't see the difference if you pinned their eyes open like little alex in a clockwork orange. repub=regressive started and fought useless wars on credit , fought climate change (how is that going, idiots) blocked women's rights (regressive and useless) blocked Clinton, Obama and Biden at every turn as they tried to help ALL americans.

The republican party is the party of Trump and they can have him. He is the Titanic and they are the band playing on the ship as it goes down.

We don't direct our strongest emotions at comic book characters or cartoon villains. Those are creations of someone's imagination, much as was the presidency of Donald Trump.

We reserve those emotions for those who, of their own free will, take them as role models, try to imitate them and take them seriously.
For the cartoon characters and comic book villains, I only have these:

And by "they," I mean the right wing propagandists. No offense intended toward your relatives.

Which party has been openly "driven by hate" since Trump rode down that escalator talking hate about immigrants? Which side was "driven by hate" in Charlottesville and on January 6? What emotion did the tee shirts saying "fuck your feelings" and "I'd rather be Russian than Democrat" intend to elicit?

It's not "both sides can't get along." It's an attempted takeover of our democracy. It's deadly serious.

I've noticed that the talking points have switched to both-siderism now that there's so much bad news about Trump and other Republicans. It's all they have. Deflect, distract, make vague accusations about "hate."

One response, if you still want to engage, might be to ask who's been talking about hating people since 2015.

It's probably not worth it though.

34. I will admit

That my hatred of Trump drives me to work hard against him

During the 2018 midterms, I was literally working 20 hours a day to FLIP THE HOUSE.

The more we were told that would be impossible, the more determined I became to get it done.

Door-to-door canvassing (which I hate), phone banking, text banking, Tweeting, and other social media.

I was OBSESSED.

I was not taking no for an answer.

In 2018 I used this great video to drive me. I still love it even if some of the people involved have changed.

It is incredibly motivating (*sound up* but I should warn you it is very LOUD)

And we flipped 40 seats and 7 governorships.

In 2020 I was determined to crush Trump in the elections.

No door-to-door canvassing because of COVID, but obsessively texting and phone banking.

The last weekend before the election there were 50,000 simultaneously texting for Joe!

I am working hard now in 2022 on text banking and phone banking (mostly texting because I have a bad cold and sore throat)

So yes, my deep and abiding hatred of Trump drives me.

But I also firmly believe in the Democratic message of civil rights, inclusion, and love.

Everyday. Thread after thread trying to understand Trumpers.

Its fear of black and brown people, plain and simple. Democracy doesn't work anymore when you are no longer the majority and that's what these assholes see. They don't want to be a minority. So right and wrong no longer matters. Its finding a way to keep control.

who did a lot of damage to our country and are we still at considerable risk of him doing more damage? If you can answer both of those questions affirmatively (and I think the answer is an unqualified yes), I think that your hatred and concern are justified, don't you? He is an awful person with no redeeming features. He doesn't even TRY to appear like a nice person.

43. I am not driven by Trump hatred. I hope he is brought to justice but I know that is out of my hands

and that a conviction will be difficult. I am driven by a hatred of all Republicans who enabled Trump and who want to destroy Medicare, Medicaid, the ACA, and all the other programs that help folks. I am driven by the fact if my daughter suffered a miscarriage as I did at the hands of a righty doctor that nearly killed me...with today's laws it would kill her.

I am furious and filled with hatred against those who overturned Roe and I can't wait to vote. Tennesse voted for an abortion law that did not account for the life of the mother or any exceptions. Roe Roe Roe your vote and fuck all Republicans which includes Trump but is not directed entirely at him. Republicans will kill you and create a fascist government if given any chance at all. We must destroy them in this election. And after seeing the early voting in Georgia, I think we will do exactly that.

I'm driven by hate of the thought that one particular party has embraced bullying, nastiness, and exclusion to create a permanent underclass, to force people to 'stay in their place' so the rich can get richer, the middle class become servants or useful tools, and the poor remain disposable.

That people don't matter unless they're men wealthy enough to buy respect.

I think he is symbolic of all of the ways our country is extremely vulnerable to, and he has unintentionally revealed it, and yet intentionally exposed it to our enemies, to the degree beyond what had always been obvious to many if not most, only gave them the receipts, metaphorically speaking.

58. sorry, but Trump is not a symbol of what we loath or hate. He is it. A symbol is inanimate, not

dangerous in itself. Trump IS as danger, not a symbol of danger. He IS a hater, not a symbol of hate. He IS a liar, not a symbol of lying. He is evil. Not a symbol of evil!

65. Fair point, he certainly is all those things, I agree completely

I would argue in the larger context, i.e. nearly every single political actor in the GOP Cult Party, he is their leader and they all exhibit the same characteristics. They are all not HIM, but they are all those things too.

Can't flesh this out completely, but I hope you take my point?

49. Hatred is the fuel on which American politics runs.

You hate them. They hate you. Round and round it goes.

51. Was the visceral toward Bush the same as it is toward Trump?

I wasn’t here during those years, so just wondering how it compares.

53. Assuming we are not complex thinkers, your family member might be right.

But my brain can multitask and have many reasons to not support or fight against trump.

They should try it. Brain good. Can handle more than one idea.

56. No family to bug me. But, my hate is for the lack of accountabilty and justice so far.

23-months and counting folks. During the election we heard over and over 'Nobody is above the law', now, not so much. It was just a campaign slogan.

61. Agree. Out of control snowball.

Combination of his expertise at skirting the law, delaying, and people too intimidated to indict a former president.

Hard to even imagine there was a time, I remember reading, that when trump fired Comey, the staff thought, this is it, and started working on their resumes.

57. I want to stop regarding Trump as a "symptom." He is the disease.

A disease is what it is. A symptom is an outgrowth or result of the disease. It's the pain, the suffering and death caused by the disease that see. Thus, I hate the disease and all its mutations!

63. I'd like to point out the vast majority of the democratic world is with you

Half of the USA may think Trump is a suitable person to be president, but most people in democratic countries have always seen him as immoral, untrustworthy and a dangerous person to have any power. A poll taken in 2019, so before the attempted coup (and also "The survey was conducted in Ukraine prior to revelations regarding President Trump’s July 25, 2019, phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky" ):

As has been the case throughout his presidency, U.S. President Donald Trump receives largely negative reviews from publics around the world. Across 32 countries surveyed by Pew Research Center, a median of 64% say they do not have confidence in Trump to do the right thing in world affairs, while just 29% express confidence in the American leader.

Anti-Trump sentiments are especially common in Western Europe: Roughly three-in-four or more lack confidence in Trump in Germany, Sweden, France, Spain and the Netherlands. He also gets especially poor reviews in Mexico, where 89% do not have confidence in him.

In nearly all nations where trends are available, Trump receives lower ratings than his predecessor, Barack Obama. As reported by the Center in 2017, international confidence in the U.S. president plummeted after Trump’s inauguration, while favorable ratings for the United States also declined.

https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2020/01/08/trump-ratings-remain-low-around-globe-while-views-of-u-s-stay-mostly-favorable/

I don't think any DUer is driven primarily by hate of Trump, though I think a lot of use are clear that he can never be trusted on anything, and the movement around him is a danger to the USA and the world.

Is a horror there'd be no way to get them to go to a psychiatrist. Besides, are there trump deprogramming specialists out there?

73. Thank goodness

In my now very small immediate family we have no dump supporters. There is nothing wrong with being driven by hate for that monster imo, he is a despicable, mass murderer who has committed numerous egregious crimes including endangering national security. And he is continuing to try to damage this country and to incite violence, yet he’s still walking free.

People need to get angry about it, people need to get angry and to start calling out the fascists who are still supporting him. Who are trying to soften and minimize his crimes. That would be my reply to your relatives. At some point you need to draw a line in the sand and say enough.
