Al Zabadany 15-1-2012

Posted by abeer on January 15th, 2012

The regime’s armed forces resumed shelling in Zabadany and Madaya; they had temporarily halted their offensive to coincide with the Arab League observers’ visit earlier today. The team of observers was greeted by more than 5,000 demonstrators. The observers also witnessed the effects of shelling of residential buildings, and was given a file containing the names of area martyrs, as well as those of the wounded and detained.

Zabadany was also visited by a delegation of the Syrian Red Crescent Organization, which examined the situation on the ground. The delegation refused to remain in the area because of the bombing, and cited a similar situation in Homs, where members of the Red Crescent died under fire.

For the past three days, Zabadany and Madaya have been under siege, whereby two brigades backed by fifty tanks continue to shell residential areas without interruption. These areas are also suffering from a complete communications and electricity blackout, in addition to a cutoff of all water supplies.
