It's a bit excessive.

(35,148 posts)I have enough to worry about in my own state without sending money to Georgia,
Pennsylvania, Florida and a dozen other states.

(31,014 posts)at this time. Daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly goals. I get them from everyone. It's annoying and sometimes insulting since we contribute what we can when we can.

(21,802 posts)Its often not the best candidate that wins, but the one that raises the most money. Then they take that money, and use it to raise more money.
I've given as much as I can to as many as I can. I know these begging emails are computer generated, but I think it probably turns a lot of people off.
There has to be a better way.

(36,362 posts)Gf got 50 yesterday from repubs and then some more.
Their previous high match was 15x your donation.
Now you get the 'honor' of claiming a 25x match.
Send money.
Donnie Jr will send your name to Daddy as a patriot.

(15,001 posts)I still give, but I refuse to receive anymore solicitations. The appeals from Nancy Pelosi, in particular, grate me to no end. I'll donate but I'll not be harassed, or made to feel shitty, or appealed to strictly through my emotions.
I give what I can. There should be a button to click when you first donate, asking to be exempt from any further appeals. Or at the least, given the ability to choose how many times you wish to hear from candidates in any given period.
These are the days of computers and instant communication. Politicians should use them to protect their constituents, not hound them.

Less than a month till the election.
Obviously bogus. It's all boilerplate.
The new icloud plus from Apple (just buy more than the default icloud storage) lets you set up random email addresses that get forwarded to your inbox. You can ignore or shut down any one of them (they are listed with the recipient).
I have also used getnada.com for incoming emails, but each random address it assigns, or that you create, is basically public, if anyone can guess it. You can use it once to get a verification code (or whatever) and forget it. The mailbox is emptied monthly.
INDEED, if computers were used to solicit opinions, they would have greater value than spammy requests. That happened ONCE.
I don't let the requests bother me.

(2,680 posts)It's the one I use for almost all non-personal causes and newsletters. I sign all petitions with that one. Then I can find the emails I want to read (those from my friends) and ignore those that I can't afford to do anything about. As much as I want to donate, we are on fixed incomes and have had to dip into savings lately to make ends meet.

Some campaign assistant needs therapy.
Management by guilt is the worst. Many divorced people will agree.
(Seriously, it's called "controlling", and at extremes, is co-dependence and worst, Borderline Personality Disorder)
I am not a psychologist, nor a therapist, just trying to understand what's out there and how to deal with it (or not)
Sorry that you get that kind of stuff.

(54,050 posts)When Im in the States, the phone rings off the hook with calls from people who I swear are professional fundraisers working on commission.
At least once or twice I get calls that a used car salesman would be embarrassed to make. They are raising money for (they say) Gabby Giffords and her gun control PAC. I stop them and ask if they know Gabby (of course not). I then ask if they are aware that I contribute a four figure amount at the beginning of every year? (of course not). I then explain that Gabby and Mark are personal friends, and know I contribute every year, so whats with the pushy routine? This gives them pause, but then they come back with, « well, but you could step up again, » blah, blah. I tell them they are the ones stepping in it, and hang up. I have told Gabby and Mark about this, of course, but they arent the ones who hire the individual callers. They have to rely on others for that, and they dont always pick the best people.

(36,362 posts)I remember a customer I had not long before I retired. She was an older lady, in her 80's, and very much a Republican supporter. She had a lot of trouble with her checking account, and I often helped her balance her checkbook. I noticed that she had made out checks to many Republican political organizations month after month! She said they needed the money or they wouldn't have sent her a letter in the mail. I tried to explain to her that her $10 (or $20 or whatever) check wasn't going to make a difference in their "campaign". I finally asked her to bring me the latest mail she'd received before sending any more checks. She brought in a stack of around 25 envelopes, only two of which were for utility bills. The rest were political "send me money!" letters. She already had checks made out to them. We had a very long talk, and she finally allowed me to destroy all the political letters and the checks she'd made out. I'd like to think she finally realized how much money she was "spending" for no gain. It was a very sad case of how these often fraudulent organizations can brainwash people into sending money to not necessarily legitimate organizations.
