I know a few Pagan folks in Ukraine. Since they've allowed freedom of religion there, The Old Ways have grown considerably.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church was recognized by the Council of Orthodox Churches a couple years ago, because the local Ukrainian churches and monasteries did not want to continue to be conduits for Russian espionage and propaganda.

The Russian Orthodox Church has been the right hand of Russian (and Soviet) Governments for over 400 years. Got to keep the serfs in check, after all, and how better to keep the status quo then through the carrot and stick of religion; Carrot = Suffer to gain 'Treasure in Heaven' and the Stick of a requirement for Absolute Obedience to any Rulers that Gawd had placed over the Nation.
