3. Its very fashionable to hate on it, but Time is a construct.
DST puts the daylight where it is most useful. It is most impactful if you live N of the 40th parallel, which I do.

5. in the winter, you'll have neither, regardless, on standard time.
DST of course, shifts the daylight to maximize the time after dinner.
