If the opposite of stupid is intelligent, plenty of intelligent people are caught up in the MAGA web. There is a susceptibility to cults that lies underneath this - and that susceptibility does vary person to person.

This short video does capture the essence of the dangers of social networking (group think), the human need to belong to a group (tribal in nature), the power of propaganda - and the danger of propaganda machines such as Faux.

All makes perfect, depressing sense.

(which is simply a lack of knowledge) or intellectual disability. I took it to mean something like mental laziness where people let themselves be sucked into a belief system that relieves them of the effort of analyzing and judging the value of information they are being fed. If certain beliefs comfort you or reinforce ideas you already hold, you are more likely to embrace those beliefs if you don't exercise some degree of intellectual rigor and independence. It's fundamentally emotional, not intellectual, which is why it's so hard to get through to people caught up in demagoguery.

I do find it fascinating how some are so vulnerable to things like infomercials, quick fixes, scams, and for me, faith is also a real challenge - because it can't be argued with.

We live in interesting times - and certainly not for the first time!

The other thing I found interesting - my wife and I are not joiners - not church goers, part of no groups - and we are not at all vulnerable to slogans, scams, etc. We are both quite cynical/skeptical - the video talks about how relative loners are less vulnerable. Interesting - I'd not thought of that in such a way previously.

The act of otherwise intelligent people accepting teachings for the unlearned is to be stupid.

Tired of pretending that I might be willing to.

Looking to permanently eliminate garbage humans from my life.
