4. I just joined Post.

Small community so far. No built-in acccessibility features (a concern I've raised about Mastadon), but it's still in the beta stage. Much more accessible from an ease-of getting-started standpoint than Mastadon. (The functionality is a lot like Twitter - but there are no ads and users can choose to make their content free or paid (on a post-by-post basis; participation earns you at least some of the coins of the realm, and users can tip other users for helpful, inspiring, etc. posts. (I got a penny tip on my first post).) So if you feel like it you can make it a mini-blogging site that might actually make a bit of money for you - either in tips, or because you restrict your content ot paid access.

So far it seems like decent place - I didn't run into any bad behavior. Looking at posts since it got up and running, they seem to be transparent and responsive to concerns about how the platform is working. https://post.news/

I signed up for the waiting list to be added, promptly forgot about it, and discovered they gave me an invitation to join 5 days later - nearly 2 weeks ago. (They did a mass add of everyone on the waiting list - so I'm not sure how quickly more will be added since that's going from a few thousand to potentially 375,000 in one fell swoop.) I'll probably terminate one of my twitter accounts (former work account), and leave the other just hanging there. I rarely interact with twitter (last two interactions were August 20 and Nov 4), but having the account there will let me see anything I decide is important to check out that I need to log in to see.

16. Post reminds me of my early days on Twitter

I joined around 2008 and I didn’t understand how it worked. Thus, my feed was pretty quiet - I followed only a few comedians. It wasn’t until DU went down during the 2016 election that I gave it any serious time.

Before I closed my account this week, my feed was filled with scientists, medicine, history, art, music, and politics. As much as I tried to block the Elon noise, it just kept creeping onto my feed and for the the sake of my blood pressure, I had to let it go.

So far, Post is also quiet. No major arguments I’ve seen yet. I’m looking forward to building up my feed again but it takes a lot of work finding the right people to follow.

And Liberals were never on Truth Social. There are many of them on Twitter. And it's harder to give up an addiction to something, so it's unlikely that Twitter is going to reach the depths that TS is at.

9. I never have been and never will be on Twitter, especially now. I'd say you're not missing anything.

My "social media," such as it is, is pretty much limited to DU. I don't have the time for it, and definitely don't need to have algorithms shoving things at me I don't want to get into my brain. And I don't need to spend my non-existent spare time doom-scrolling.

ALL the problems with people being influenced negatively by social media would go away if people simply stopped looking at social media. It's really very simple.

Yes, yes, there's good stuff on there, we've got to keep it from going to the dogs, yadda, yadda. Doesn't matter. With Muskovite at the helm, firing all the software engineers, it's going to be irredeemably hacked and/or crash and burn of its own accord within months, I think.

10. I made an account there years ago, maybe 10 years, I'm unsure.

I've only posted there a few times, less than 5 times. But they still send me emails about posts I 'need' to see. I never read the emails, I just delete them automatically. Maybe I should delete the account. Guess I should've done it a long time ago. But it's in my nature to just let it go until they realize it's an old, empty account, like an abandoned house that should be torn down. Doesn't matter to me. I'll just keep deleting those emails.n
