(15,381 posts)Of a kid getting ready for a school field trip, snacking on grasshopper between crackers (it's the future), etc. His class was going to go see the only tree left in his city. There were fake trees all over the place that did the work of converting CO2 to oxygen of their real counterparts so it wasn't a dystopian future. In the end, he picked something up from the ground, and as he fingered it in his pocket as he got on the bus, the last line was something like, "He thought it might be an acorn." I thought that was interesting - you could either be discouraged at the overall story of kids never having seen trees and not being sure what he had, or you might imagine a future where he's inspired to bring back trees. Made ya think either way.

(35,300 posts)There are more trees now than when I was a kid.
I'm in my 60s.
Not everything that is known is also true.
Ask me. I teach high school. But make it a PM.

(12,382 posts)Pretty sure my grandkids will never ask that question as they spend lots of time helping in the spring and summer with the planting and weeding, and lots of time in helping customers when Christmas tree time comes around.
