In USAToday (today) ,
" What's going to happen in Washington over the next 2 years? Americans don't expect much "
The headline should read:
" Maybe the idea that you just vote for the opposite party at the midterms was a bad idea" instead of asking those same idiots how things will go after they screwed it up.

(12,198 posts)Lets hope they at least have the sense to call out moderate Republicans (if there are any left) to support raising the debt limit.
The media should also be asking Republicans why they want to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits when Social Security is not part of the general fund and is paid for by individuals and employersand could be funded for decades by simply removing the earnings cap.
And also ask them why they refuse to cut the billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded subsidies to the fossil fuel industry paid to them annuallyboth in direct subsidies and in enormous tax advantages for an industry that exacerbated inflation through predatory pricing of gasoline last year to make unprecedented profits.
Of course the media will do no such thing because they dont want to put Republicans on the spot.

(2,221 posts)don't want the government to do much. They want the government to regulate bedrooms and schoolroom and let business handle the rest. Their idea of good government is a government that is divided against itself which can't do much. And this anti-government narrative isn't just the authoritarian right, it has also seeped into the uninformed middle.

(121,924 posts)lapdogs (otherwise known as the gqp), and unending, near-heroic efforts by Democrats to keep our country and our Democracy somehow intact. And I expect a whole lot of exhaustion from sane people who are just trying to live their lives.

The below was an article from last week that suddenly appeared on the front page of the print/e-edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer TODAY -

All of these unknowns suggest that Pennsylvania residents shouldnt expect much from their state government this year, experts said.

Buried in the same article, is info that the new PA SOH (who is a Democrat who decided to declare himself "independent" to break a stalemate in the PA House as the GOP loons were trying to push off special elections for the 3 Democrats in solid blue districts who needed to be replaced so the loon Cutler, whose party LOST the majority, could still run the show) appointed 6 members (3 from each party) to work on solutions.
But the article claims he has "done nothing and said nothing" and he won't talk to her (despite her only being in that new position for 3 days when the article was written, barely a week after the chambers came into session).
