(37,182 posts)After Clinton, I couldn't imagine that the country would go back to Republicans running things, so I took a lot of things for granted. After Bush II, I got serious and made sure that I could survive whoever was president.
Maybe it's because I grew up twenty or so years ago where LGBT protections still weren't a dependable thing. If I wanted security and stability in my life, I had to make sure I carved it out for myself.
My life is better than it was six years ago which was better than six years before that. It has very little to do with any single politician.

(22,764 posts)I don't attribute my success to a President, but I think the success of the country is somewhat modulated by who is president. And one thing is plainly clear, the US is doing much better under Biden than Trump, in virtually every conceivable way.

(11,767 posts)has it's pluses and minuses. One of the pluses is that while we do see the effects of idiots like Trump being in office, California is big and powerful enough to blunt some of the effect of stupid policy.
My family and I deal with the issues with California's economy and policies more than things coming out of the national government.

I do understand he lives rent-free in many heads here. I will never understand why this is.

(51,308 posts)In the last few years, I've seen numerous pleas for money here.
I've seen numerous complaints about jobs.
So, maybe pay better attention? It's funny what you can tell about people's lives by reading their posts.
Lots of misery and gloom in the last few years. It's got me a bit flummoxed, because I was happy when the goon left office.

(367 posts)and Trump signed The Mission Act in 2018. President Obama signed The Choice Act which was not good enough, but The Mission Act allows me to have 9 non-VA doctors and MRIs and C-scans for everything except my primary care doctor, psychiatrist, bloodwork, and vaccines at the VA clinic because they are only 13 miles away. If Congress would vote for an increase in VA healthcare that would allow the VA to hire 41,500 more doctors, nurses, and technicians they need then we wouldn't need The Mission Act, but that will never happen.

(55,852 posts)I've had a series of health issues as well as cost-sucking repairs at my house. It doesn't help that the stock market has tanked either.
One improvement is that I'm not so angry all the time from seeing Trump all over the news. He is of course still in the news, but it doesn't bother me as much since he's not president.

(59 posts)Plus points: The environmental laws are more stable since Biden took office. I can sleep better at night because there is not a riot or demonstration or national upheaval every month. I don't worry about loving and conspiratorial meetings between Biden and Putin or any threats to withdraw from NATO. I feel that grown ups are once more in charge of a great many things and it is reassuring to me that the people Biden appointed stay in office. You are not reading or hearing about the Secretary of this or that quitting or being fired every few months anymore.
Minus points: Socially things are worse. I no longer feel close to some people who I had been friends with for many years due to their unwavering support of TFG. I can't understand how they can live with their choice to support him. It is a private sort of feeling, since I say very little about it to them because it would just make the gulf widen. The pandemic changed the way a lot of people socialize. Many older people I know get out less and do less because they are afraid of getting sick. People I know who got sick with COVID 19 before a vaccine was available are getting sick a second time with a variant of it a year later, vaccine or not. If they got sick once before they seem more vulnerable, not less.

(3,557 posts)Mostly, significantly better because my left me about 4.5 years ago.
I figured we would have stayed married until the kids graduated high school, but she decided to end things much sooner. I was the sole income earner and I feared that divorce would have a profoundly negative impact on my kids well-being and their overall quality of life. Ive seen firsthand how divorce disrupted the lives of various friends growing up, and I figured staying together was the best thing I could do for my kids - even if it was at a huge detriment to myself.
I had been married about 14 years and honestly, our marriage had been over for the last 8 of those years.
Anyways, my ex left me and my life has done a huge 180. Im soooooooo much happier now and my kids are too!

(104,535 posts)But during the height of the lockdowns I was seriously close to flat out going crazy, like committed level crazy. Things have got so much better for me since the shittiest year ever (2020) that it's not funny.

(19,941 posts)I'm sorry you went through that, and I hope things continue to improve for you.
We're currently still experiencing some of that feeling. It's not just politics. A whole bunch of shit has been going wrong the past few years.
We're both getting a little squirrelly here.
But as they say...everyday above ground is a good day.

(104,535 posts)Yeah... going a whole year without seeing anybody, traveling anywhere, or going to events, and being shut in my house the entire time really had an effect on me both mentally and physically. I'm someone who loves to travel and attend events like concerts and theater performances. I'm definitely glad I was able to come out of that unscathed!

(7,874 posts)Whilst Folks were saying they would move out of the country, I kinda did. I signed up for the IHS and gave up first world amenities. Its very challenging, very rewarding ( not just financially) and never boring. I help a lot of people who need it.
Next to getting my degrees, getting married and having children, it has turned out to be one of the best events of my life. A win-win-win
