One time, I got my partner a "left-handed back scratcher" as a gift.

First he said with delight, "I didn't know they made these!"

Then, a pause.

Then, "You asshole."

I will bring it up forever.

Forever.

Given enough time, human skin colors will all blend into one color......maybe right before earth temperatures exceed human survivable standards .

We humans are a social species, tribal by nature. We’re given to gathering and communing in familiar groups. “Belonging,” our capacity and need for empathy, compassion, and communication, is in our DNA.

We are the most evolved of all species on earth, the most intelligent and creative of God’s creatures. Our achievements in the arts and sciences and many other endeavors are extraordinary. If we so wished, we could heartily congratulate ourselves on all we have accomplished.

Unfortunately, we tribal humans have a “dark side,” ironically also related to our social relationships: We are as belligerent and brutal as any other animal species. Our species, homo sapiens, is indeed creative and loving, but it is also destructive and hostile.

Tribal animosities have always been part of our history, either between antagonistic countries or enemies within each nation-state. Every country has close-knit tribes or groups who harbor “rational” reasons to praise themselves and hate others, usually based on prejudicial lore rooted in religion, ethnicity, race, economics, or politics.

In my opinion it wouldn’t matter skin color is a convenient difference.

Look at England and football (soccer). Hell, glance at Scotland once in awhile. You'll see the whitest people on earth who hate each other. Also, Ireland. But that's religion.

Many groups in Africa don't get along. Then you can get into the East Asian triangle of doom. Ask Chinese, Korean, and Japanese people what they think of each other. See how they treat one another in their own countries. (And I know this, because a lot of that prejudice and enmity was carried over into the diaspora in California)

You often read sentiments like, "Children don't naturally hate. They're taught to hate!" I mean, that's a nice sentiment. However, has anyone ever actually seen kids around each other? I mean, really see them. They break down into in-groups and out-groups really, really quickly. "Timmy sucks. He likes Paw Patrol. Such a baby." On the adult level, we discuss things like race or religion or ideology. With kids, it can literally be anything that can be attached to identity.

With apologies to TM Scanlon, working out how to not be a tribalistic asshole as an adult is an unending task.

But we can evolve past this. It requires us to be open to growth and change something that conservative mentalities abhor. The future, our choice is either progressively evolutionary or conservative stagnation and death of the species.

like in another 1000 years or so, everyone would be the same color and there wouldn't be any bullshit excuse for racism. Sadly though, I think you're right.

Tamils and Sikhs. Protestants and Catholics. Bosnia and Herzegovina (I know i'm wrong on the details probably but you know what i mean). Rwanda.

My nephew visited on of the European countries during the time the two ethnicities (is that what they hung their hate on?) were killing each other. I asked them how do they know who to hate? and he said, he didn't know. They looked pretty much the same.
