(182,603 posts)I heard comments about how McCarthy wasnt very smart or savvy and those comments appear to be true.
Hes really 3rd string. Boehner saw what was coming and bailed. Paul Ryan openly said he didnt want the lead position but took it anyway aaaand then bailed. McCarthy was literally just standing there.

(15,062 posts)You would know what an imbecile he is.
Rachel did a segment on this a few years ago. He spoke of going to "Hungria" in a press conference. It goes well beyond malapropisms. He uses words that aren't words. I'll see if I can find it. It's very funny, in a terrifying way.

(12,640 posts)...a savvy self-made businessman who dropped out of college to start a successful sandwich shop that expanded. What made him popular in the GOP circles was that he came from a "liberal leaning Democratic family" (unusual at the time), decently good looking, and was "charming" in an easygoing country lawyer sort of way. Had just enough education to sound smart, but not so much he sounded elite. He also worked really hard to listen and figure out where the bodies were hidden before he opened his mouth. Very much like Paul Ryan.
However, I'm thinking booze and sullen resentment both at the way the GQP has embraced the crazy and Nancy Pelosi's effective leadership has gone to his head over the past 8 years or so. He's not a True Believer, he's an old school Chamber of Commerce Glad-hander who just wants to have the title and pretend he's in charge, but not be bothered all that much with the responsibility of real governance. He would let the committees and majority floor votes do the work, he just wants to be a facilitator.
And everyone in the GOP hierarchy is perfectly willing to make him the "sane face" fall guy for lobbyists and other monied interests.

(82,849 posts)Surely after you appease the Nitwit Caucus once, they'll be happy with their political pelt and won't come back asking for more, and certainly not when you desperately need every last vote on a crucial bit of legislation.

(3,522 posts)to portray Republicans as dangerous radicals is so infuriatingly typical of mainstream media coverage. No matter what crazy thing Republicans do, like trying to overthrow an election, for example, the Democrats are just playing politics. I swear to god, the ReThugs could propose taking illegal immigrant children and grinding them up into meat pies, and the MSM would talk about Dems gleefully using the issues as a cudgel to portray them in a bad light.
Were not allowed to be outraged by the GOP being outrageous; its all just politics

We may well be at that point with Kevin McCarthy. Bat him around like a troll.

(17,145 posts)FQX and the like will not educate their viewers about it because they'll get mad and most of MSM shy away from
it because it makes reQublicans look stupid and that's who they want in charge. We could use some new
messaging plans going toward 2024.

(3,839 posts)breaking ranks and voting against McCarthy's extremist agenda. I think we'll get to about 10 or 11 of those on some major issues, including the debt ceiling.
