Biden strikes EV deal with Tesla, others for widespread charging station access

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/biden-strikes-ev-deal-with-tesla-others-for-widespread-charging-station-access-100044167.html

Overall, President Biden has pledged that the government will oversee a national network of 500,000 electric vehicle chargers by 2030. The goal was set as part of the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law, which put $7.5 billion towards the EV charging efforts.

Biden also aims to have at least 50% of vehicle sales be electric by 2030. Both goals, officials said, remain well within reach.

"We’re well on our way, we got to keep our foot on the accelerator,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said this week.

WASHINGTON – The Biden-Harris Administration today announced it has approved Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Plans for all 50 States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico ahead of schedule under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, established and funded by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. With this approval, all states now have access to all FY22 and FY23 NEVI formula funding, totaling more than $1.5 billion to help build EV chargers covering approximately 75,000 miles of highway across the country.

Residents of those red states may not go for EVs just yet, but at least there will be charging for the rest of us.

I think the Cevy bolt is a great deal. We just bought one of the lot for msrp. It comes with the full 7500 tax rebate, at least for now, and has a lot more range and a more standard plug that the nissan leaf (our nissan dealer refused to sell a leaf for msrp, ymmv). We've had a vw id4 and a ford lightnbing on order, but Chevy dropped the price and VW and ford upped the price, and the difference ended up being very, very large. Also union-made in the USA.

They replaced the batteries on the ones that had the problem last year.
When the law changed they became eligible for the tax rebate again.

powertrain made and assembled in South Korea... batteries, motors etc...

In fact, 80% of a Bolt is made overseas.

NOT really a big deal, nowadays... all car MFG globally source parts.

The "most" American made car is Tesla... particularly the Model Y

from the feds no matter if they pay taxes or not. A married disabled veteran with a monthly income of $5,500 can't afford an EV.

That is $66,000 per year.

A person making that can afford a $20,000 to 30,000 EV.
