Read so many "why Romney lost" columns - (a Yahoo link below, for ex) - NONE stated the magic word.
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/how-race-slipped-away-from-romney.html
Not one said the word. And what is it? LIES. Not a single column I read (unless it was very left-leaning, and I'm not certain on that one either) mentioned that essentially everything out of his mouth - and all of the ads that supported him and attacked president Obama - were based on flat out lies. Lies about his record, his previous speeches, our President's record. Lies. Maybe we are all so jaded and ad-flooded that we assume that all politicians lie all the time (that false equivalence thing, so annoying)....but maybe, just maybe, enough people saw through the lies and decided that the country could not flourish at all under a serial liar. And that is why all of Rove/other's zillions couldn't buy this election. Just maybe.

1. I agree that that was at least PART of what helped us, and that it has been way under-reported

2. Yes - it was not meant at all to belittle the strength and talents of president Obama, either.

3. Amazing isn't it?
While I think lying, or a slight shading of the truth, is fairly common to all politicians....I have never seen an entire campaign based on lies and obfuscation. It was a wonder to behold...or would have been if it wasn't o damned frightening.

4. Moreover, the tacit premise is that Obama didn't really WIN; it's just that Romney LOST.

6. The final nail in the Romney/Ryan coffin
was not Sandy, but the BIG LIE repeated over and over again about GM exporting U.S. auto jobs to China. It was a hail Mary pass that was intercepted and run back for an Obama/Biden touchdown.

7. This is the post of the week in my book!
No one talks about the fact that if Romney won, we would have cemented the campaign strategy of lying continually to win. Thank goodness he lost!

8. You're right, and sadly, I don't think Romney lost a lot of voters over it
Something really weird has happened to America- lies are enshrined and truth is ignored.
"The Mideast hates us for our Freedom!" "Climate Change is a Conspiracy!" "Evolution is only a competing theory!" "We're bringing people Democracy!" "We need to slash entitlements in order to save them!" It gets worse every year. I think we've reached the point that most people don't know what's real and what's not anymore. |

11. the lies that went unchallenged during the Bush years changed everything, I think.
Those 8 years are when the media lost much of their relevance, honor and legitimacy....and when the lies are accepted, it changes our country's morals as well.

9. My recollection is that Reagan lied a lot--or just made stuff up on the spur of the moment. I still
remember well his comment that trees were the major cause of smog. And he claimed that he didn't say things that he had said too. It drove me just as crazy at that time. But there was something different about it. It didn't seem as deliberate, conscious, or calcualted as with Romney. And he didn't treat everyone as though they were inferior to him or stupid.
Truth is, I am astonished that he came as close as he did. It seems as though people have lost the ability to see a persons character reflected in his or her actions. |

10. How many Why Kerry lost columns did people write? Why is the media so focused on McCain and Romney
even when the GOP loses the media can't admit the GOP isn't a majority view in this country.
