https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article272631679.htmlKansas City police said multiple officers were shot Tuesday night in an incident that was described as an active standoff on the eastern side of the city.
Capt. Corey Carlisle, a Kansas City Police Department spokesman, said in an email that the standoff was ongoing in the 2300 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard. The location is near Blue Summit, an unincorporated area just east of Interstate 435 and north of 23rd Street.
Mayor Quinton Lucas posted a message on Twitter at 10:19 p.m. saying three officers were injured.
Weve been reminded too much lately in Kansas City how dangerous police work can be, Lucas wrote. I am praying for a full recovery for our three officers injured this evening and that everyone on duty gets home to their families safely.
No other details were immediately available.

(34,106 posts)I have heard from one of my sons. Waiting for the other although I see there was no reason for me to worry but still, both are musicians and play all over the place in KC. My DIL was also home and not singing. Scared me, I think I will be up a while now. Being on a stage is such an easy target.
Thanks for posting this. I was out finishing my chores and just got home and saw this right away.

(12,904 posts)No place to perform in Blue Summit. Mostly just an older neighborhood area between Kansas City and Independence. The police have been having an ongoing problem in this area for a while now.
Also, dammit
this is way too close to me.

(34,106 posts)it is getting so bad. Even Topeka is having a lot of trouble. I stay out of there as much as possible.
I have spent my life in and out of KC but I have never been able to learn it. I know how to get to the Plaza, the Jazz district, Westport and the original KU med buildings. After that I am a basket case.
Stay safe, it is scary out there and thanks for telling me that. I finally heard from my oldest. He was in Topeka with his girlfriend. Both safe, my heart is calm.
Take care.

(7,217 posts)I really dont care anymore.
I once argued with a police chief after two cops were murder while having lunch that every cop in his state should drive to DC and pound on the doors of Congressmen.
If they dont care, why should I?

(67,792 posts)The one from PEW, apart from the opening paragraph, seems to be about black people as it relates to cops. The Atlantic article is behind a paywall..
I will grant the PEW article alleges cops don't see a need to reduce the number of assault weapons. I have seen other articles saying cops favor greater regulation, if not bans.
Again, thanks for the links; I had not seen either.

(82,849 posts)Really? Imagine if you aren't in well-armed and highly trained cohort, you know, just a regular citizen going about your business and you run into a crazed gunman. Thank goodness we don't put any real restrictions on who can have a firearm in these here United States, because that would be tyranny not to face the prospect of sudden death at the hands of a person who shouldn't have a firearm in the first place.
