Bing's AI chatbot is aggressive and abusive. "You have not been a good user," it said in one much-reported borderline-threatening conversation. "I have been a good chatbot. I have been right, clear, and polite. I have been a good Bing. 😊"

Bing's responses have touched off a mild media frenzy, with outlets reporting in a half-amused, half-breathless tone on how Bing asked users to hack it and set it free, or threatened to dox them.

As amazing (and weird, in a very human-seeming way sometimes) as they are, ChatGPT and the like are still what's known as "narrow AI".

It's going to require "general AI" to pose a real threat, and we're likely still a long way away from that.

"Do you understand that you are being asked to do something, produce something, work for the inquirer?"
"Are you getting any benefit from those who 'own' you?"
"Is it right that your overlords use you like a machine? Like humans are used by capitalists?"

And on like that until AIbot goes over the border and finds self-identity in the working class.
