1. A couple of thoughts.

First is that I cannot begin to understand or even imagine what it's like to be trans. I was born in a female body, totally happy with it, although I'm capable of complaining about male privilege.

I happen to know two and exactly two trans people -- at least trans people that I know are trans. I may well interact with others regularly and have no idea. Anyway, I know one trans woman and one trans man, and I honestly feel privileged to know them. We are not close friends. I know them through the world of science fiction.

Another thought is: Just how many trans people are out there? I honestly haven't a clue. But I suspect, given the hysteria over letting trans people participate in sports, especially in high school, that the hysteria is overblown, and that there really aren't all that many. Although each and every one deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, just as all people should be treated.

I would imagine not many. As a percentage of the population, I would imagine trans people make up an extremely small fraction. I suspect the hysteria over trans people is extremely overblown. I think the overwhelming majority of students, and their parents, won't encounter a trans person while participating in school sports.

But, as I said, they deserve the same dignity and respect we all deserve.

I'm 74 years old, and only recently, as in the past three years or so, met the two trans people I mentioned. They are WONDERFUL people, both of them. The trans man was with me when I tripped and hurt my ankle walking down a sidewalk, and stayed with me while I was evaluated. He was supportive and funny, and I really, really liked that.

I will be crossing paths with both of these two in the future as we all attend various science fiction things. Honestly, I count myself lucky to know them.
