I am Baked Potato. I am back with an explanation and an introduction I never made.Some of you may remember me, and some will remember I made a posting which I indicated was going to be my last here on DU.
I know I will take a hit on my reputation and I fully understand. There were some who suggested I just take a break and come back later. In hindsight, that was some good advice which I should’ve heeded.
I really appreciate you all, most of whom I consider my giant extended family. I miss lipping-in with comments and also posting an occasional rhyme. I miss RECing all the important and interesting OPs. I miss posting Original writings, which I admit could be slightly out of joint. OK, sometimes my OPS were really bizarre.
About me: I am a mid-sixties year old guy, a California native, and I grew up in Southern Cali. I am retired military. I was in the Signal Corps with MOS’s (Military Occupational Specialties), which had me nearly always assigned to Infantry Units. I basically did everything the 11’s did, plus some other shit. I retired pay grade E-7, rank of Sergeant First Class, otherwise known as Platoon Sergeant.
I married a nice girl from Manteca, Ca in ‘78. We had some kids, did a whole lot of moving, and I credit Uncle Sam with helping me and my family enjoy a relatively good life and also provide me the means to an education which I couldn’t afford otherwise. I *did* work very hard for the bennies, though, as my body and mind can surely attest to.
We have had and still enjoy many cats running ‘round the house, romping as if they are in cat heaven. And, of course, they are.
I have my loving wife with me still and also our youngest adult, the daughter. I consider myself extremely fortunate to simply be alive and kicking. I am kinda burnt out though, and very tired lately.
But, I am still here. We *have* to beat these goddamn filthy fuckers, the GOP. They are totally disconnected from decency and reality and cannot be allowed to claim as their own any part of our America, period.
I feel like I still have a voice to be heard and considered as to opposing Republicanism and holding the line against fascism. The coming months up to the next election will be a true test of the Grit of Democratic Americans and our entire system.
Please have me back and maybe remember some of my contributions.

We like cats here on DU. Some of us like dogs too.
But, most people just call it bedtime!

And I have barely missed a day here at DU. We plan to move to CA and will be visiting in May. Thanks you for sharing your story and realizing that we enjoy your views and welcome you back.
