Let's See How Fast They Fix THIS One: "Inspection delays impacting home sales following derailment"
Inspection delays impacting home sales following derailment - WKBN 27
The emergency response effort in Columbiana County following the East Palestine train derailment is holding up some real estate transactions.
According to Ohio Realtors Director of Local Government Affairs Veronica Cardello, a temporary waiver of well and septic inspection has directed all personnel in the health department to address the related contamination in East Palestine. 1. It's The Response Effort?
I think it more likely buyers are having 2nd thoughts about moving into what had now been demonstrated to be a toxic swamp.

2. People are going to think twice about buying a home around there anyway
Who'd want to live near the site of this major disaster? Even if it turns out there are no lasting chemicals in the water and earth, there's always the possibility of another derailment. Are they relocating the rail lines? Hell no.

3. Must be quite a growing backlog of people wanting to move into East Palestine....
or maybe it's an excuse to stop the local market from crashing.

4. Oh, well. No immediate interest rate hikes to kill delayed sales.
The rest is just a nuisance, like having to rent because occupancy is delayed. (If cost covered by insurance, send the bill to your insurer to pay and go after Norfolk Southern, if not send the bill to Norfolk Southern.) Not that there'd be a lot of activity in a quiet rural area like this. Inspection delays while authorities determine what to inspect for are of course responsible and to be expected.
On the plus side, so far things are actually looking about as good as they can. We missed the horrific derailment explosion with hundreds of dead and dreadfully burned and poisoned. So far no indication of significant long-term environmental impacts. Chemicals found so far are relatively short-lived and "unlikely to bioaccumulate in human and animal tissue." That's a biggie! On the long-term side, the EPA's requiring testing for dioxins at unacceptable levels, including for comparison in areas not affected by the accident. But, so far, testing for "indicator chemicals shows low probability of release of dioxin." We'll see. Wish them well. |

5. How fast they fix what?
And you are upset that there isn't enough inspection and testing being done at the derailment site, now you are upset that they are delaying home sales due to inspection staff being redirected to the derailment site to perform inspections and tests there. Do you not see the problem in holding both of those views at the same time?
Would you prefer that they do less testing and inspection at the derailment site so they can process home sales faster in the surrounding county faster? |

6. Oh, I'm Sorry... CURRENTLY, I'm Most "Upset" That The EPA Is Directing Norfolk Southern To...
Do the testing for Dioxins.

7. And yesterday you were upset that there was no dioxin testing being done at all.
I, for one, am glad to see that progress is being made, just as I told you to expect in your threads about the matter yesterday (or the day before, whenever it was) because to think otherwise is to buy into some sort of conspiracy that Regan, Buttigieg, Biden, etc. are somehow all corrupt and in the pocket of """Big Rail.""" As I asked someone else yesterday, why would this administration not want to do the right thing? Can you answer that?
Oh, and as the EPA Administrator said: "In response to concerns shared with me by residents, EPA will require Norfolk Southern to sample directly for dioxins under the agency’s oversight and direct the company to conduct immediate clean up if contaminants from the derailment are found at levels that jeopardize people’s health." |

8. True... And You Were Saying That The Burning Of Vinly Chloride Would Not Produce Dioxins
You also do not agree with the conclusions of multiple OUTSIDE scientists who say that EVERYBODY (Governments and Industry) are (soft-pedaling) the danger in East Palestine.
And I hope you guys are correct, and us non-scientific peons, are just over-reacting. Because if your wrong, the road to a 2024 Democratic Victory will be made just that much more difficult. Enjoy your mechanisms. ![]() |

9. Wrong. I don't know one way or the other.
I just referred you to another poster that was more knowledgeable on the subject that said they would not pose a severe risk here and that dioxins were already most already likely in that environment; it appears the EPA is aware of this, hence why they are also requiring a background study to be done to determine what the preexisting levels of dioxins were in that area so it can be compared to the areas around the derailment to determine the actual impact, if any.
And Democrats weren't winning Ohio in 2024 to begin with and Republicans aren't gonna win by trying to co-opt longstanding Democratic pro-environment and pro-regulation policies and fooling people into thinking they aren't who we all know them to be. That ship has sailed. |
