With AG Garland in Ukraine today, I am glad to see a growing parade of high level admin . . . .
. . . . personnel making the trip.
For the most part, these trips are symbolic - "performative" in the current term of art - to send a message. Yes, the trip is arduous and not without personal peril. But people like Garland, Yellen, Blinken, Austin, Biden himself, and others could do their work just as effectively. They're leaders and strategists. They direct the actual doers.
The audience for these high level visits, it seems to me, include the Russians and their friends, our allies, and the Ukrainians themselves. Most importantly, the audience is US. Those of us who approve of our involvement and those opposed will hear it.
What I continue to hope for is isolation of those GQP performative - there's that word again - crazies, one by one by one by one.
