3. More than just healthcare

Diet has a huge component of this. Universal healthcare would help a lot, but diet might help even more. Like everything else in our country, we are force fed garbage food in order for giant food corporations to make more money.

But preventative care is an essential part of healthcare millions lack. Yearly physicals and timely cancer screenings are the things that make such a huge difference to catch issues early and millions lack coverage for them.

We garden year round, pretend we're in a cabin on an island, carefully sourcing our food from reputable suppliers, and prepare food ourselves for nearly every meal. We have lab tests performed regularly to ensure that our diet remains well suited for each of our nutritional needs.

We're surrounded by a culture that's embraced ignorance as bliss.
Truly, there are none so blind as those that will not see.

sigh

Our system of healthcare does the equivalent of giving lip service to liberty.
Each will lamely maim you.

Careful out there...
Eat well, sleep well, stay well...
And above all else...

Laissez bon temps rouler, no matter what you do!

that implies that we have no will - I think as citizens we can do better for ourselves and each other.

Combined with social media, peer pressure etc may very well work to reduce critical thinking about food (and other issues) in a percentage of the population.

I bet that the "cheering" you read on "depopulation" was DUers saying "don't worry about population decrease; the environment needs fewer humans". But that will have been in threads about birth rates, not death.

You are attempting to accuse "most DUers" of being in favour of death, when instead they're saying they're fine with lower birth rates. This is like trying to conflate support of the death penalty and support of contraception. It is, obviously, an awful attempt on your part.

It seems hypocritical to argue that low birth rates are good but shorter lives are bad. It certainly is a bit of a contorted observation on my part, but I don't think it's stretch. I think I'll poll it.

in seeing that as a wonderful thing. But it is. Not long ago the world was very different, but now many nations have caught up to or at least within reach of the democratized west. And the improvement in human wellbeing continues.

As for the post's theme, there's nothing good about not having the best healthcare in the world, but not to mislead and direct malcontent inappropriately.

The United States has epidemics of deaths by suicide, drug overdoses, and of course Covid (over 267,000 in 2022, on track for the same in 2023, 2024, etc until...?).

COVID and OVERDOSES are the two biggest contributors to the drop in life expectancy, which will reverse and rise again when we make more progress in lowering deaths from both. Those who mask are doing their part to reverse the drop. And of course, those who do more to avoid overdosing.

As for supposedly bad healthcare, deaths from various chronic illnesses that are avoided or delayed only by adequate healthcare have dropped and continue to drop. Liver disease is up.
