And likely will remain. It’s a struggle that will continue for as long as authoritarianism emerges and takes hold. As a whole, our society has been complacent for too long. No wonder fascists fear ‘teh woke’.

It seems to be an unfortunate tendency in human beings, generally. In ""The Promised Land", Barack Obama seems to come to that same conclusion.

Society just made it (mostly) unacceptable to show overt racism in the public sphere, even as we did little about it at an institutional level. But Sarah Palin put an end to that with her racist rhetoric on the national stage of one of the main political parties in the country. The Republican Party should have shut her down, threatened to take her off the ticket if she didn't shape up, but of course they couldn't cuz they've been courting the racists since Johnson signed the civil rights act. And the media sure wasn't going to object when they saw the ratings she drew. And here we are even further down that hole. I hate that I'm a pessimist but it's hard not to see us as a failed species. We can't get along. The lowest common denominator seems to rule.

That said, happy weekend, Cilla!

Hard not to just want to retreat into my silo with other like-mindeds! At our best, humans are so good!

Let's not forget the America First movement of the '30s, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_First_(policy) which is rearing its ugly head again, even under the same name. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_First_Political_Action_Conference
